this wasn't crit towards me but a player i had cr with, and i thought it was the dumbest thing i'd heard. player's character (we'll call the character phil) was interacting with a character from another cast (we'll call that character chad). a player of another character from chad's cast didn't like phil's player and made no secret about it. well, without warning, they lit into phil's player one day and told them if they're going to interact with anyone from their canon at all, they need to let the entire cast know, because it could affect them all!! somehow! directly or indirectly!
and just for some perspective, this was casual cr, not anything life-altering for any characters. and the cast was small. and what chad did had very little bearing on the complaining player's character because their characters were enemies in canon and in game.
anyway, complaining player ended up going to the mods about it, who sided with them and then implied that it was all on phil to let castmates of other canons know when they're interacting with someone. as if this was an unspoken, understandable rule that applied to everybody. if anything, maybe it should have been on chad's player to let their own castmates know that they were interacting with phil, but even that's dicey, unless they're building cr that could potentially affect the rest of the cast.
i still think about this sometimes, because it was such a stupid witch hunt. phil's player wasn't very popular due to the nature of their character's canon, but they were hardly wanky or deserving of all the hate they got. trying to defend them was a surefire way to be ostracized.
something similar happened in one of the games i was in. now i wonder if it was the same one. i'm ashamed to admit i was on the mods side at the time bc i didn't like the player in question either but it was all so petty and stupid.
