the amount of replies claiming smut with teenaged characters is disgusting amazes me, because I've never seen anyone claiming that writing smut fic or rp about glee, teen wolf, naruto, attack on titan, avatar, legend of korra, homestuck, free!, or any other popular canon with teenage characters was wrong before. like I've literally never seen it, and it's so common everywhere.

makes it even weirder that I've never once seen anyone kick up a fuss about it though. back in the day I saw people in hp fandom say that writing smut, period, is wrong (because they're children's books and kids on the internet can find it), or that incestuous smut is wrong, or that homosexual smut is wrong (despite the prevalence of slash, fandom wasn't always so tolerant about homosexuality). but I don't remember ever seeing someone say that writing smutty HP fic is wrong because the characters are underage. that's how much of a non-issue teenagers fucking in fanfic has always seemed to be.

i think there's a difference between saying all underage smut is fundamentally disgusting vs. saying adult men who seem positively obsessed by smut involving really young underage girls is disgusting. i'm not against all underage smut full-stop, but it does weird me out when an adult player is exclusively really into underage smut and not very much else.

plus in this most recent wank there was some total creeper who was trying to defend real sex with real teenagers as long as the teen in question "had it rough" according to them, and i think even people who are theoretically okay with fictional teenage smut are going to defending their roleplay funtimes on the backburner in favor of smacking down someone who wants to defend actual, real life predation

oh yeah, I totally get that. I imagine the reason teenagers fucking in fanfic has always been so accepted is because it's about shipping. this person's otp happens to be two teenage characters, but they don't have a thing for teenagers in general. or it's about attraction to the actors (who are usually much older than the character they're portraying). not sure how well it'd sit with people if someone who wrote smutty fanfic for fandoms where the characters are teens said that they're actually attracted to teenagers. probably not very well.

but a lot of the comments seemed to say that any adult who writes about two 16 year olds (for instance) having sex is a pedophile. which surprised me, because almost every smut writer I've known wrote about teenage characters at some point, and a lot of the biggest fandoms for shipping feature teen characters. and it's not like there aren't actual published books featuring graphic scenes between teenage characters (lots of YA books I read when I was that age had them).
