Your game has a two strikes you're out policy for AC. There's one player who has been there from the start and they're basically a dream. Welcoming to newbs, active, deeply engaged. Consistently dropped as a game favorite and showered with love. Some serious RL issues have caused them to become almost completely inactive for months. They're out of strikes, they're out of hiatuses, and they're so desperate not to lose their CR and place in the game that they're begging you to stay, literally shaking and crying and swearing they'll do better. RP is their one escape. They've put in so much time.

Their RL situation is ongoing, with no end in sight.

At this point, I'm tempted to think the idea of this girl is the only thing she's in love with. She's keeping this bs up because the alternative is to bring the fantasy to an end.

Re: YOU BE THE MOD

this is hard, but sadly, i'd take the player aside and let them know as gently as i could that while i personally feel for their situation, ignoring the rules for one person reeks of favoritism and it's not fair to the other players of the game and is something that i as a mod could rightly be called out for. tell them you sympathize, but that if their rl situation is so unstable, a game doesn't look to be the best outlet for them at the moment as a game requires reliability and they're incapable of it. suggest a psl based on the game with their cr, tell them that once their rl situation evens itself out, you'd be happy for them to app back in, but the rules apply to everyone and while exceptions can be made, they can't be expected to be made indefinitely.

it's a really shitty situation for the mods, the game, the player, and their cr, but unless you as a mod feel like telling anyone that questions you to fuck off and that you're going to let them be inactive and sporadic in your game despite the rules you have in place, a polite but firm putting your foot down is really the only fair recourse. i'd feel for them, but they are not my only player.

If some one covered their skin with green makeup in order to cosplay Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy would you be offended?

My personal feeling on this issue is that its just a skin tone. As long as it is tastefully done out of love for the character they are imitating and not done in a 'minstrel show' kind of way I don't see the harm in it. A black girl can cosplay a white character and vise versa, I have no problem with an Asian guy wanting to look like a western superhero, hell a guy could cosplay as a female character if he wanted, its all just for fun and far too many people take it too seriously.

Let them know that they could drop for a month or two, as long as they need, and they will be welcomed with open arms when they return.

Temp dropping is not the end of the world. Yes, someone might join with their character, but let's be real, most people these days drop after a month or two anyway.

getting unsolicited interest, praise, and ideas for cr/threads/plots on plurk is very nice and I'm grateful

but it would also be nice if all that talk translated into actual tags, instead of me being on the backburner for what feels like everyone in my circle

when someone has a habit of phrasing things in the most attention-whore fashion when it comes to rp

it's a bit hard to describe, but they constantly do this coy "tee hee x would do that ~oops~" strikeout thing and then repeatedly call attention to that/continue that thread of response when the rest of the plurk has moved on

I've been cosplaying for 10+ years and every single make up tutorial for anime cosplay has you making your eyes bigger/more noticeable through shit like creative use of eye liner or circle lenses. This is completely new and alien shit to me, and tbh I haven't heard a peep about it in my cosplay circles, either.

oh look, the "but space aliens" argument. let's just ignore that on its face because comparing fantasy races to real world racial matters is always a dumb argument and let's just put it this way;

implying in any way that you need to change your skin tone, as a white cosplayer, in order to cosplay darker or "asian" characters and be accurate or properly imitate "out of love" implies in the very same breath that darker skinned cosplayers, or asian cosplayers, or whatever, need to do the exact same.

And idk if you know any non-white cosplayers, but they still get shit for being "the black ___/the asian ___" with ___ being whatever character they're cosplaying. Racism is still very much alive and well in geek circles, especially cosplay, and I want to believe you're the kind of person who things it's wrong for a black cosplayer to be expected to white up their skin to cosplay Sailor Moon in order to be acceptable.

So remember that when over-simplifying this very complex issue.

like, waaaay back before murderstuck, I liked Gamzee a lot, because he was an affectionate-seeming parody of a goofy subculture and had some interesting points to his character (being uninterested in the hemospectrum, neglected by his lusus, friendly and forgiving to the point of absurdity, even just his general glassy cheer was unique), and even during murderstuck it was still INTERESTING that he had flipped his lid and was taking his religious meltdown really, really hard.

since the pappening, though, it's just mostly been the Gamzee Is Important But Let's Shit On Him show, with zero insight into his motivations besides maybe Cal Makes Him Do It. saucy maid equius is more interesting. fucking horuss zahhak is more interesting.

well yeah, i paint myself purple when i'm cosplaying a night elf. here's the thing; there are no purple-skinned people in real life. nor are there blue, or green. i'm not potentially offending anyone.

if i painted my pasty-white skin brown to cosplay someone like yoruichi, i'd get a well-deserved side-eye.
