well yeah, i paint myself purple when i'm cosplaying a night elf. here's the thing; there are no purple-skinned people in real life. nor are there blue, or green. i'm not potentially offending anyone.
if i painted my pasty-white skin brown to cosplay someone like yoruichi, i'd get a well-deserved side-eye.
I think people are just too easily offended these days. Sure some people dressed up as different races and cultures trying to make fun of others but there are a ton of people out there that don't have that in mind at all. They just love cosplaying. People need to be a little more chosey about what they get offended about.
...i wasn't agreeing with you. i said i paint myself purple since it's not going to offend anyone. i wouldn't paint myself brown to be yoruichi, or shayla shayla, or loran cehack, or ed from cowboy bebop because it would.
it's less people being "too easily offended" and more about people being aware of a very delicate situation. perhaps you should learn to be more aware yourself.

here's the thing; people were always offended. they just now have more of a voice to express it.
