Idk if this is the right place, but like...

Do you ever feel like you have too much CR? It feels like it's becoming a chore to keep up with ALL the people my character knows and whose muns want my character to thread with them, and when I fail to keep up with even one of them people start crying that our characters arent threading enough anymore. I'm grateful people wanna thread with me, but sometimes I just want to relax and have fun with a few people so I can actually keep up with things. I feel like I cant even post a plotting plurk without someone breathing down my neck to resume CR I've had to put on hold.

this has been me for the past few years. i get a lot of cr in games, and that's great, but keeping up with it all is difficult... and when i fail to do so at 100% efficiency, i immediately get accused of being flaky/cliquey/etc. i feel bad complaining about too many threads but it would be nice to top level once in awhile without worrying about getting swarmed.

honestly? this is why i don't post top levels too often. i know what i can handle and i tag out to what my char/s can get involved with without feeling swamped over it, but it's never going to be enough for someone. because all they see is what you're not doing. you're not top leveling or you're not making open posts or you're not tagging them. but if you have one or more characters, depending on how much time you can focus on for rp, unless you're literally glued to your computer 24/7, you're never going to get to everyone in the game. and god forbid you play a popular character, because then the scrutiny is tenfold.

personally, i'll live with being called cliquey over feeling swamped and burned out and flaking on things because i've overstepped my boundaries. rping is supposed to be fun. if i'm stressing out over all the cr i need to make so people stop being upset, that's not fun.

i feel this comment so hard, anon. i am playing a popular character, too, and i honestly do my best to get to everyone and tag out but it's like you said. it's just never enough for some people, and inevitably i hear complaints. but by the same token, if i try even harder i burn out and get accused of taking on too much.

some days rp really feels like a lose-lose. i mean i love the hobby and always will but when did it become such a job? you'd think having so much cr across the board would show to people that yeah, you're tagging out plenty, but even that's not good enough. being under constant scrutiny sure sucks.

it's not that i don't get the desire to play with a popular character. there are tons of chars in games that i'd love to be able to have cr with. but my wants don't supersede someone else's abilities. i'm not always going to get what i want, or if i manage to get it, it's not going to be the same priority level for them as it is for me. and if all i can do is sit and bitch and whine about what i'm not getting instead of having fun myself in other ways, then i'd be in the wrong.

so if you (general you) want cr with a popular character but they don't have the time or the energy to devote into new cr, maybe find other things to do. get your own priority cr. find something else to play. go find that char in a meme if you need that cr so badly. you're not entitled to it in a game, and unless that player is playing only with one or two other characters and being legitimately cliquey, don't call them a flaky cliquey asshole when they're likely just doing the best they can.

Yeah, sometimes, especially if my character has wound up as part of a big cast or in a position of ic responsibility.

My recommendation is to step back a little from plotting for a month or two. Be honest if you're overloaded with threads and can't do any new ones; hiatusing can help things slow back down to your preferred pace, too. If there is an issue with your character ICly being the gatekeeper for some plot element or popular group, try figuring out a way to share that responsibility so players don't get shut out of plot if you don't have time to thread/develop cr with them.

Hey, thanks guys. This was all super helpful and reassuring advice. I think you're right-- better to seem a little selfish than over extend myself.

Grass is always greener anon. I wish people gave a mass shit about my characters, and before some smartass comments I don't think my writing is bad. I'm just perpetually stuck as playing characters who are either obscure or at most get a reaction of "Oh it's...that guy."

Though I should add that I know what the above anon said is right. You can't magically rewire people's brains into giving a shit and whining just makes people feel worse, so I have fun with the people who do tag me consistently. That's why I'm complaining anon.

I do and what's even worse is I'm a mod. It's just not feasible for me to have CR with the entire game the way some players seem to want it, even with only limiting myself to playing 1-2 characters at any given time. Maybe if it was a small game but I comod one of the mid-sized ones so there are just too many characters and players for it to be possible thanks to my time being taken up by mod work. The accusations of cliqueyness don't happen too often but they can still be frustrating when they do. It's not like I don't want CR with people, because I really enjoy the players and characters in the game, but if I was to mod and to have CR with every player in the game it'd have to be a fulltime job that pays my rent so I didn't have to work.

I wish the players that did get frustrated with me would understand the only reason I don't have CR with them is because keeping things running on time takes up time. If I wasn't a mod, I'd have more time for CR with more characters, but somebody has to help run the game, and whoever does is always going to be in the same boat. Mod work is just time-consuming by its nature.

And imo while it's true there's a handful of people in the hobby that have genuinely cliquey attitudes, I think a lot of people who get accused of cliqueyness are really just at a point in their playing that they have a lot of CR to keep up with, because the longer you play in a game the more CR you have. A lot of people would actually like to play with more people if they could but there's only so much you can take on at once. I wish rpers wouldn't ascribe that to someone being snooty and thinking they're too good to thread with some people unless the player actually displays snooty attitudes. At least half the time it's just people trying not to bite off more than they can chew with the number of threads they're in, not them disliking someone or their character.

i'm in this exact same position right now. nobody outside a few friends know i'm a mod, either, so it's not like people are understanding of it. really gets me down some days.
