this has been me for the past few years. i get a lot of cr in games, and that's great, but keeping up with it all is difficult... and when i fail to do so at 100% efficiency, i immediately get accused of being flaky/cliquey/etc. i feel bad complaining about too many threads but it would be nice to top level once in awhile without worrying about getting swarmed.
honestly? this is why i don't post top levels too often. i know what i can handle and i tag out to what my char/s can get involved with without feeling swamped over it, but it's never going to be enough for someone. because all they see is what you're not doing. you're not top leveling or you're not making open posts or you're not tagging them. but if you have one or more characters, depending on how much time you can focus on for rp, unless you're literally glued to your computer 24/7, you're never going to get to everyone in the game. and god forbid you play a popular character, because then the scrutiny is tenfold.
personally, i'll live with being called cliquey over feeling swamped and burned out and flaking on things because i've overstepped my boundaries. rping is supposed to be fun. if i'm stressing out over all the cr i need to make so people stop being upset, that's not fun.
i feel this comment so hard, anon. i am playing a popular character, too, and i honestly do my best to get to everyone and tag out but it's like you said. it's just never enough for some people, and inevitably i hear complaints. but by the same token, if i try even harder i burn out and get accused of taking on too much.
some days rp really feels like a lose-lose. i mean i love the hobby and always will but when did it become such a job? you'd think having so much cr across the board would show to people that yeah, you're tagging out plenty, but even that's not good enough. being under constant scrutiny sure sucks.
it's not that i don't get the desire to play with a popular character. there are tons of chars in games that i'd love to be able to have cr with. but my wants don't supersede someone else's abilities. i'm not always going to get what i want, or if i manage to get it, it's not going to be the same priority level for them as it is for me. and if all i can do is sit and bitch and whine about what i'm not getting instead of having fun myself in other ways, then i'd be in the wrong.
so if you (general you) want cr with a popular character but they don't have the time or the energy to devote into new cr, maybe find other things to do. get your own priority cr. find something else to play. go find that char in a meme if you need that cr so badly. you're not entitled to it in a game, and unless that player is playing only with one or two other characters and being legitimately cliquey, don't call them a flaky cliquey asshole when they're likely just doing the best they can.
