the thing is, this is part of why people don't take trigger warnings seriously. a trigger warning should be reserved for issues that are both widespread and traumatic enough that any given reader might need to know ahead of time, lest they have a flashback to a relevant incident.

otherwise it looks like stupid fucking tumblr bullshit where everything vaguely upsetting is deemed "triggering". the distinction exists because "upsetting" and "triggering" are two concepts that actually need to be kept separate for the sake of people who are prone to flashbacks. it has nothing to do with being pedantic.

this exact thread/argument is why everybody should use content warnings instead. nobody would be having this dumbshit argument over whether or not to use two terms that are essentially the same, except one is slightly more emphatic.

and yet some people can and are triggered by things in content warning, so for them, it would be a trigger warning. like the other anon said, this is the dumbest fucking argument on wg. i'll take a warning at all over someone just posting themselves fucking a tree with their sopping uterass. whether it's content or trigger doesn't matter to me. the focus and pedantry on that stupid word when they essentially mean the same thing 'warning, questionable material, read at own risk' is fucking stupid. it's a warning. be happy someone bothered.

I had a genuinely creepy experience a long time ago, though it turned more pathetic as time went on. Back in 98-00, I ran a PBEM game for canon OCs set in the Magic Knight Rayearth universe. It was common in those days (at least in our little corner of the internet) to collect addresses around the holidays and set up a christmas card exchange list. We were a small game (somewhere between 10-15 players) and it wasn't a big deal at the time. A few months later though, a player got a little rowdy and had to be removed for powergaming. I can't remember what exactly he did, just that we'd had enough of it. I got a barrage of hate mail afterwards calling me all kinds of names. Eventually the emails started ramping up, until this one that I remember most clearly. He recited my physical address back to me and said that he was planning a trip there so he could wait outside my door and murder me.

I guess you always remember your first e-death threat. I knew it was highly unlikely that anyone would follow through on it, but I was also still in high school. I was really unsettled for a long time whenever I came home by myself late at night, and had a habit of looking over my shoulder just in case. He was also really persistent, and followed my online presence even when it changed. One email was an apology, followed by a confession that he'd had a crush on me (even though he only knew me as a character and a game mod). After I ignored that email, there was another death threat (still citing the old address even though I'd moved twice since then). He always seemed to find me even when I changed email addresses and moved on to different online hobbies. It went from scary to annoying and eventually kind of sad. It's been a few years since I last heard from him, so I hope he's gotten a life finally.

this is why I'm iffy on player plots

i don't join games to be subjected to the edgelord ideas of people who aren't even mods and just happened to app in

at least if they're just a player i can avoid their characters.

collect receipts and go to the mods. this is what they're for. it has to be something you'd probably have to drop over, though, and you have to try to talk to your castmate first.

I was really trying to like her in WS but I lost any interest?/respect?/motivation to care I would have had for her when Brock pulls a gun on that little nerd at the console and she just stands there until after the guy does his 'gonna die for this but no' moment and THEN acts. I know it was a writing thing because you want the drama and little nerd guy earned all our love for his moment of bravery but still - way to sit that one out, girl. And I never got her motivation in CW. I mean, I can speculate why she worked so hard to get where she did in a few years time and then just tossed it all away with probably jail time coming up for Cap but the movie gave me absolutely zero to back any speculation up with. I kept thinking how she could have been replaced with Widow or Maria Hill and it would have made just as much sense if not more and been more interesting as well. I fault the writers for not giving me anything to latch onto for Sharon but anyone that stans the movie version isn't doing it for the character herself.
