wankgate | 169: i just learned about this person and already i hate them

I was really trying to like her in WS but I lost any interest?/respect?/motivation to care I would have had for her when Brock pulls a gun on that little nerd at the console and she just stands there until after the guy does his 'gonna die for this but no' moment and THEN acts. I know it was a writing thing because you want the drama and little nerd guy earned all our love for his moment of bravery but still - way to sit that one out, girl. And I never got her motivation in CW. I mean, I can speculate why she worked so hard to get where she did in a few years time and then just tossed it all away with probably jail time coming up for Cap but the movie gave me absolutely zero to back any speculation up with. I kept thinking how she could have been replaced with Widow or Maria Hill and it would have made just as much sense if not more and been more interesting as well. I fault the writers for not giving me anything to latch onto for Sharon but anyone that stans the movie version isn't doing it for the character herself.

I'm really tired of the mentality that if you hate Sharon Carter, you're a misogynist and you only hate her because she gets in the way of Stucky.

No, I hate her because there is absolutely no depth to her character. If she can be easily replaced by someone else, you know there's a problem.

then what's the point of hate over apathy? if there's nothing there, there's nothing worth hating

except that's exactly what there is to hate? that there's nothing there. it's a waste of a character. either they develop her like an actual character or ditch her and give the time to someone else we actually care about.

there's also plenty of hate for the sharon stans calling people "misogynists" purely for not falling in love with a character that has nothing there worth getting invested in.

yes, this. i like to think we're past the era where we have to be happy a female character even exists and gets any screen time, like we're dogs waiting under the table to be thrown a dry bone from the feast. hey, at least you got something!

no, how about giving us actually well-written characters with personality and motivation beyond attracted and loyal to the main male lead? it's 2016. we should be beyond that shit now.

i hate stucky. i think it's blatantly ooc for both of them. sharon doesn't even factor into my feelings about that, but i also don't ship her with steve. he deserves more than a cardboard cutout if he's going to have a ship at all.

i get being annoyed with her stans, but hating her as a character just seems like a waste of energy. it would be like hating hawkeye through phase 2

I seriously like Maria and want more of her. I feel nothing for Sharon outside of the in-universe reactions she produces which... could have been achieved by anyone Steve decided to kiss.
