the tl;dr version is that bismuth invented a weapon that was intentionally designed to shatter gems (and not in a "last resort" kind of way, i assume bismuth planned on mass producing these things to be used in battle), rose didn't like this so she poofed and bubbled bismuth and didn't tell pearl and garnet what happened. bismuth tries to get steven to use the weapon too but he rejects it, bismuth thinks he's ACTUALLY rose and tries to kill him, fight ensues, steven stabs bismuth with his sword and poofs and bubbles her again, promising he would tell the other gems what happened.

there's more to it than that and i actually liked bismuth's character, and they've clearly set it up so she'll come back, but tumblr is obviously not going to be happy with this.

Jasper's voiced by a black woman? didn't know that, but I also don't keep up with voice actors

the fact that it wasn't glaringly obvious is probably a sign that she's not "black coded"

i found bismuth to be a pretty cool character and i'd like to see more of her. i think she'd make a great villain if the show decided to go down that route, but i'm doubtful. jasper's grown mostly ineffective and a joke and i think bismuth could pose a serious threat to them.

she'd be interesting as a villain, too, because it wouldn't be the regular "grr i hate the crystal gems blah blah" and more "i'm doing the right thing, why can't you see that?"

she has so much potential but if/when she comes back she'll probably see it their way and become a good guy.

Steven's entire characterization and arc is about there's another way to solve problems that doesn't involve hurting other people - he has shown repeatedly that for him, violence is the absolute last resort and everyone should have a chance. Did they really expect him to just suddenly go "Let's destroy the diamonds yaaaaay!"
