i've seen stuff like breaking bad and mr robot written off as edgy crap. same with stuff like game of thrones which, yeah, has issues, but is hardly just edgy crap.
i've seen a lot of posts on tumblr where "edgy crap" is pretty much just shorthand for "dark/violent thing i personally dislike", not just suicide squad and family guy tier shit.
it is definitely grimdark, but although that won't be to everyone's tastes i also don't think that automatically makes it BAD. it's bad when a canon is completely lacking in substance and uses "IT'S VIOLENT AND DARK!!!" as its only selling point (see: a lot of 90s rob liefeld comics), but a thing can also be cute and fluffy and just as lacking in substance.
that's fair. i just wanted to point that out because one of the reasons behind the backlash against "edgy" canons is a legitimate (imo) burnout on grimdark media. it just got taken too far because the internet has no idea what middle ground is.
