people responding to network posts with audio or video and giving you nothing but the words their character is saying. i don't need paragraphs of introspection, but would it kill you to give me like a sentence or two to expand on what their tone is like or what kind of face they're making or where they seem to be responding from or something?
yes. yes it would. maybe you'll get that next tag. or the tag after. not every audio/video tag has something to respond to other than the verbal cues to lead it along to the next tag.
take what you get. move it along. respond to what you have. wah wah.
That's fine. But the tag thing is a two-way street, so don't be surprised when I drop your ass and go RP with someone else who actually tags me back more than once a week.
Not every tag needs it, no. But your first tag should definitely establish something about the mood and setting for your character, especially if it's something the other character would notice. People react to posture and tone of voice all the time in real life phone and video conversations, it's not somehow unreasonable to expect those things in RP as well.
Even worse, people who respond to face-to-face tags with dialogue only. Every now and then is fine, but are you really telling me your character's tone never changes, their body language never changes, they never move around the space they're in, anything?
apparently my entire plurklist is incapable of reading. the downtime isn't until April 7th, y'all, stop acting like it's going to happen within the next three hours
my game's got a mandatory hmd without mandatory anon and the list of people who don't want anon and the list of giant tittybabies are almost exactly the same.
in games, I'll usually wait a month to tag any fad canon players. in memes, idgaf.
there are a few fad canon characters that I just outright refuse to tag, though. characters like Dead Brother from Pacific Rim or Paige Tico from Star Wars where the character has barely any characterization in the main canon, but the players just want to hop that hype train with someone who isn't taken
idk what the current ones are. mcu'll hop back up again at the end of the month. probably when the new round of adventure zone gets into full swing we'll see some more amnesty characters (including sooooo many tryhard aubreys)
if nothing's really changed between the one tag and the next then going with just the dialogue sometimes mid-thread is fine. but in the first tag of the thread? if you're giving me absolutely nothing but dialogue then i guess i'm free to assume that your character is delivering these lines without inflection, stock-still and blank-faced and existing in an empty void.
One time I had a thread where the other player didn't tag me back for almost a week. The day they happened to tag me was the day I spent with my grandmother in the hospital. I plurked that I was home and was talking about what happened with my grandma and they came in asking if I was going to get to that tag that's been sitting there for around 12 hours. Sorry I can't be johnny on the spot when you want to tag, Brenda.
The only complaint I have for my IJ game is that only one person can tag an open post or thread at a time. From a continuity standpoint it makes sense but it makes establishing cr such a slow as fuck process
Castmate apps to the game, drops our first two threads after a few comments, makes two accidental network posts where their character does nothing but stare at their computer screen, then drops.
Then they apped back into my cast with a different character and did the exact same thing (complete with "staring into space" network posts).
I was once in a game where my character's significant other apped in and managed to go an entire six months without doing a single tag due to a combinations of strikes and special exemption hiatuses.
