It does warn you. Right next to your minimap you get a flashing hunters mark icon, which says guards have seen you, run. Then you have about 15-20 seconds to vacate before they shoot you down. This icon comes with a big red bobbing arrow directly over your head. It isnt that the game doesn't warn you. It warned her twice. She ignored it.
