sa, I had to drop Lindsay a while back after she blamed the bad reception of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie on the ebil mens instead of the godawful source material and CC's infamy.

I don't have a problem putting blame on production when it's due (lookin' at you PJ and what you did with the Hobbit), but that clearly wasn't the case with CoB.

It's actually just what it sounds like. Black, "nappy" hair curls tightly and doesn't grow the way straight white hair does. Some women will never have long hair because it simply breaks off or stops growing before it can get to an "appropriate" length. Generations of socialization has led to a black culture that believes its natural hair is "ugly" and needs to be chemically straightened or hidden by a weave. Black hair culture is a multi-billion dollar industry. It's also the root of stereotypes like "black women won't go swimming," because "good hair" will run you thousands of dollars and is easily damaged. But it's so normalized in black culture that people don't see anything wrong with the practice. There are four year olds who get chemical relaxers smeared on their hair until their scalps burn, and at the time TLC was trying to raise awareness of the issues plaguing a marginalized community.

Lindsay's review accosted TLC as being pop nonsense expressly marketed toward young white women while overlooking the importance three black women might have had toward the black community. I'd already been shifting away from her at the time, but that review is the one I remember being legitimately upset with. Her myopia killed my drive to take her seriously.

i know about society being anti-natural black hair and a lot of black women straightening their hair either with chemicals or hair straighteners, but my pasty white brain didn't make the "tightly curling hair doesn't grow the way white hair does" connection.

i feel dumb now but tbf i have no black friends.

it may not be lidsay's take, but it IS hollow pop nonsense coming from a trio where fucking not a one of them wore their hair naturally for most of their careers (except left-eye very early on)

Early on, she did an episode on Mulan and kept bringing up foot binding for some fucking reason. The rest of her take on the movie was pretty still awful, but her weird obsession with foot bonding thought throughout the whole thing really stuck with me.

Couldn't watch her after that, she honestly just came off as ignorant and not that funny.

Sounds like her Labyrinth video that beat the audience over the head with Bowiecock jokes.

NC did that with his Labyrinth review, but the runtime was longer. With NChick it felt like it was every other joke between clips.

foot binding is still an issue for some women from places that practice it. it's mostly outdated now, but there are living examples of women with permanent disfigurement from it.

no it's not. mulan well predates the practice of footbinding, which came about in the tenth century (mulan is from between the 4th to 7th). any story of mulan with footbinding in it is anachronistic or has had its setting changed.

Apparently most of the ChezApocalypse group was very vehemently witch hunting and attacking people within Channel Awesome. Lindsay actively accused a couple of leftist liberal creators of being alt-right because they were openly sex-positive.

Kyle of Oancitizen apparently said something to the effect of "there is no such thing as politically neutral".

That's the more dangerous type of rhetoric from the left and that shit genuinely frightens me so I immediately stopped watching them.

she brings it up in her twilight video as an example of a modern franchise with a kind of weird power dynamic at its core that people seem okay with, which fair. she mentions that japan has different cultural standards about that stuff, including age, which - little weird to be vague about like that with, then fair.

THEN she puts on an 'annoying nerd trying to correct me in the comments' voice and goes 'ACTUALLY japan's age of consent varies by prefecture and none of them have it set lower than 18 and ALSO its perfectly normal to want to fuck a sixteen year old' and I had to close the video because what the fuck. Yeah, the people trying to correct false assumptions about a country's laws are the pedophiles, good job there, Lindsay.

IE: if you correct her and tell her that the age of consent in Japan is 18, you're a pedophile. Which is an insane thing to say.
