Was talking about old wank with someone and got curious.

WG talks sometimes about individual wank incidents but some games had ongoing regular wank. Which ones had the most toxic playerbases you ever encountered? Which ones are the most toxic right now?

worst i've ever encountered was ruby city, a name wg oldtimers will know well

not t in it so i can't say for certain, but i've heard nothing but horror stories about drift fleet

The Games.

Yami and Ali were a big problem, but people made it out to be like Yami and Ali were the cause of the worst of the wank and that wasn't true. A huge portion of the playerbase was toxic well before everything with them came out. They needed a new target to rip into almost weekly and had serious issues with overinvestment and being entitled. Someone apparently told one of the mods she should break up with her girlfriend to avoid the appearance of favoritism since her girlfriend was in the game, too. The Homestuck cast was also a mess and sometimes caused drama behind the scenes.

Some players were great there and I loved some of my CR. The only place I've managed to make similar intense CR with since then has been playing at murdergames. But the batshit players were a special kind of batshit and the game's wg and rpa threads were always an embarrassment.

i remember joining the games and being mildly surprised that they put an age limit on tribute auctions/forced prostitution. it didn't affect me either way, but it was a huge part of one of the book character's backstory, and i didn't see them softball anything else about the setting

zodion for having a high concentration of backstabbing mean girls and stealth wankers

a lot of bullying went down on the downlow or anon in that game, with a number of people quietly getting frozen out of cr and dropping without saying anything about it to avoid starting drama because they crossed the wrong people or to make room for a clique member or to get rid of an unwanted character

there was also a segment of the people who would only play ftb being judgmental pricks and slutshamers about anyone who talked about writing smut in a sex game like an adult instead of being uwu so pure that i'm shaking and crying over the idea of writing out sex uwu

my tinfoil theory is that there was overlap between this group and the assholes who were making shit miserable behind the scenes, and that filtering them out without outright banning them is one of the reasons later sex games started instituting smut acs

most of it happened behind closed doors, but as a member of the app team it was pretty obvious since at the time it was 20+ people, given just how big the game was. people would regularly mock apps of those they didn’t like or were just not part of their clique, ot threads were all over the place in the app comm and he mods did fuck all about it. jen was one of the worst offenders and iirc was one of the founding zodion mods. tengu and linh were also pretty big pieces of work on the team.

That tinfoil theory wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. The mods and their team of ass-lickers took it very personally that anyone would ever assume a game needed a smut AC and they threw a huge tantrum when CoA was announced. Unsurprisingly, they did a good deal of the shitstirring and backstabbing in Zodion, too.

I have fond memories of the game and made some great friends there, but the medium divide wank was exhausting to deal with, and the icon wank later on was just goddamn embarrassing to watch.
