I just watched the movie and holy shit this is the worst premise for a game ever. Who decided it was a good idea to make a game where nobody can talk or make large movements and will die in 15 seconds if they do? Who thought "You know what rp needs? No dialogue!"
Well I mean, these mods obviously did? Personally it sounds like a unique challenge to play. And actually makes sense for a game premise as to why so many people would use the network to communicate, it's actually necessary for communication.
i mean, i don't really get it either even though i like the idea of having to communicate over a network as part of the premise rather than just "this is a thing that exists bc that's how rp is now so we need to work it in"
i just can't imagine playing in an environment where characters... can't interact face to face, more or less. it seems more like something you'd use in a psl than an actual game
They can, they just can't talk. Except for when they can talk.
As someone who's played mute characters before it's a lot easier than you think. Establish a mode of communication (notepad and pen, typing text onto a screen and holding it up) early in the thread so you don't have to describe it every time, then just tag as normal.
Writing gestures is probably the most difficult part, and that can be pretty fun to figure out.
They magically learn sign language in a week and have communicators at all times so honestly no one even treats the "no dialogue" thing as a hindrance.
On one hand, the movie is taking place only about a year into dealing with the monsters, while the game is implied to be many years later, so people have had more time to adjust.
On the other hand I think it's mostly people treating it like a normal DWRP game, only you have to type your character's dialogue in courier or italics.
This was one of the reasons I dropped. No one actually played out a month of learning local sign, everything just gets "soundproofed" with easy to earn AC points, and since it's not policed OOC you can have your character slip up and just get lucky and not get killed.
It's one of those things where ICly it makes absolute sense to try and mitigate but OOCly it's like... Ok, there goes the appeal of trying to have characters work with it.
why i decided not to app, tbh. my character not getting soundproofed at the earliest possible opportunity would be irreconcilably OOC, since the option is there, but OOCly having the option makes the game much less interesting to me.
Yeah, it's honestly one of the most disappointing things about the game. Even if I wanted to try to interact with that part of the premise, other characters swoop in and soundproof everything to the point where having your character worry about it feels a bit silly.
That and the all the weird events that seem more focused on making characters makeout or have sex rather than anything to do with making noise.
if your characters talk, even with soundproofing, they don't get the points for those threads. you can pass ac making noise, but bonus ac is only for silent threads.
40 points got you like a whole separate house with land and I saw people cashing in 100-150 because of how easy it was to get even at my slowest I would earn like a house a month
and then for some memes you could get half points even if they weren't canon

bonus ac was ludicrously easy
