Yeah they already treat them that way, but mods always have the ability to point out they’re not paid and that it isn’t a job. As soon as you start really throwing money into the mix (not gifts like dw points or whatever), that entitled attitude is going to skyrocket and actually have some credence because players really did pay for the service.
i mentioned this in another subthread, but this is why i think a kofi would work better if money is involved in some way. it's just a tip jar/thank you for hard work, nothing more and nothing less. patreon, though, is set up to provide special goodies depending on how much cash you send their way.
Is Kofi anonymous? An anon tip jar might work, but if names are attached then it would inevitably lead to accusations of mod favoritism.
I think it would lead to wank no matter what, really. There's already been a lot of wank over the personal financial choices of players who beg for money on Plurk or sell commissions/possessions to cover their rent.

that's exactly why i'm uncomfortable with this idea as a mod. i don't want to be put in a situation where i feel like i can't give a player or character any sort of role in the plot or something like that without worrying about whether the rest of the game is going to think i did it just because they gave me money.
i have no intention of monetizing my game, but anyone getting all GET ME YOUR MANAGER because they toss a buck or two a month a mod's way is in for a rude awakening if the mod has anything resembling a spine.
personally, i'd treat it as a work-to-rule situation. you want to insist tossing a couple bucks in my tip jar is ~paying for my service? fine. i'll give you exactly the amount of service you paid for, which at minimum wage in my region is about enough to process your ac and answer one question if it's not too involved.
everyone else who isn't a massive entitled doucheweasel gets service as usual.
