So I'm thinking of apping an OC from a tabletop campaign that just bad-ended.

Problem: I'm really really attached to this OC. I got lazy designing them in the first place and just threw a bunch of my own traits into the mix which made their whole story way more personal than intended and now the campaign is over I really miss playing them. Hence why I'm bringing them to DW.

It's not like I kin them or something, and it's not like I'm going to be crying and shaking TM if they don't get CR. Still, I'm really aware that it's kind of frowned upon to relate to your OC like this and I don't want to come across as a total fucking weirdo.

Also holy fuck are PBs really necessary? I feel like a skeev looking at all these weird pics of male models.

Even if you don't think you're too attached to your character, you're a bad judge of how invested you actually are. You really need to think on how you'd feel if you were namedropped, or had your threads dropped, or developed negative cr. I've had to step back from OCs before, so even if it's not a problem now, keep an eye on it.

And if you're playing in games, yeah, pretty much. You can try to play a character with no icons but you're not going to get many bites (or end up with nothing but trash tier rpers). PBs are okay, but if you're really invested in making a good impression and getting interest, a nice set of drawn icons are ideal.

it's your oc. you can rewrite parts of them if you need to. you can revise parts of their actual history if something's easier to play without getting too close to the bone.

they're your oc and nobody actually cares about the integrity/authenticity of the tabletop campaign behind them unless they were there.

If you're not comfortable looking at LA options and commissioning a set seems like a little much, you could always try for some more obscure animanga character if that suits you. There are a few communities floating around for that kind of thing. Can drop links if you want them

PBs aren't strictly necessary I don't think, but it sure doesn't hurt

Do you think MCUs should be responsible to be aware of the other Marvel canon characters? If a 616 comes up to an MCU they also know in 616 and cracks a joke or references something about them, should the MCU player have to understand that this is something that could happen? I'm not asking the character to respond ICly to something they wouldn't know about in canon, but isn't it a little mean for the MCU player to talk down to the 616 player for trying to be inclusive and fun?

no. just because 616 is casual about alternate realities doesn't mean anyone in mcu is. being part of a franchise doesn't mean that you have to be part of all of it.

it'd be the same as someone playing from riverdale and having one of the comic chars come up to them. two different things. comics are not movies. movies are not comics. they aren't interchangeable. the mcu player might just be being ic in going 'wtf are you talking about'? because that would be pretty ic for an mcu char that hasn't had to deal with alternate realities. dr strange is probably the only one comfortable with that from the mcu.

are you sure you're not just taking an ic comment oocly? i know way too many mcu players that fill with comic canon to think that this is a thing that happens often.

I think expecting MCUs to be anything other than mediocre to bad rpers who mostly want play out a specific ship with another MCU is probably setting yourself up for disappointment

so no, if you play a 616, just accept that most MCUs aren't interested, do what your character would do, and walk it off if they toss you a few pity tags and drop the thread

then yeah that's incredibly stupid. not wanting to play with alternative realities is fair, so just say "hey i don't want my character to deal with this" and you avoid each other. but controlling what your character says? nah. as long as the 616 doesn't expect more than "wtf?" as an IC reaction, i think you're good.

ime a lot of the mcu players i know tend to get really fucking weird and almost defensive around 616 characters? like suddenly they realize that their Perfect Pure Woobie Bucky has a perfectly functional and well-developed counterpart in the comics or something and they don't know how to deal. or they start getting weird about how the comics suck and the movies are so much better.

no. it is not at all reasonable to expect people who play from a specific, distilled iteration of canon to be aware of the nine billion characters populating a completely different and sprawling version of canon. fuck, it isn't reasonable to expect another 616 player to be aware of that one issue deep in an obscure branch of a giant crossover event that occurred in 1985, their character shared a sandwich with yours.

if you want someone to be aware of your character who doesn't even exist in their version of canon/crossed paths with theirs once but is from a largely separate part of the universe, talk to them oocly, don't just pounce on them and then pout because their reaction is confusion instead of the excitement you're clearly expecting.

nope.

imo i think the pressure got to be too much for her, rl issues started coming up and the temptation to ghost became too much to resist. she was the head and only mod in that game who did an insane amount of work by herself for years, including extensive npc and plot work. i don't think there was any malice or apathy, i just think she got exhausted and burned out.
