don't be obtuse

brewing coffee with water =\= adding more water to your coffee once it's brewed

oh, i see, so you just have poor reading comprehension

step 1) fill a mug with milk

step 2) drink milk until there is the amount you would put in your coffee

step 3) add coffee, which is brewed in water, to the milk

ayrt

honest question how else do people brew coffee if not with water? i thought an americano was specifically coffee or espresso brewed (with water??) and then once it's in the cup, adding more hot water to it? now I'm confused

"i fill a mug with milk, drink it down to the amount of milk i want in my coffee and then add coffee & water"

unless they're being weird and saying they're adding unbrewed beans and water to their milk, the implication is they're adding (already brewed, presumably in water) coffee & water

which is adding more water than the water that was used to brew

talk about reading comprehension when you get some of your own, moron

I kinda imagined they're using instant coffee granules

i think instant coffee is just very unusual in the US? that's my experience, anyway

Re: relevant anon

(Anonymous) 2022-04-10 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
... it shouldn't be. it's a cheap alternative to fresh brew. i'm in canada and most of us welfare bums and low income sorts that need caffeine go for instant.

i mean im a welfare bum and still get a bulk walmart brand tub of coffee every other month with my tugboat so i don't have to drink instant coffee

I keep some in my desk at work and my pantry at home because sometimes I don’t want good coffee I just want fast coffee.

this, sometimes i don't want to go through the effort of brewing a pot of coffee and just want some quick caffeine.

i live in the US and i always see instant coffee in the coffee/tea aisle at every grocery store i have ever been to? maybe you're just not looking, anon, because it's not as unusual here as you seem to think it is. i've had instant coffee before and it's actually pretty decent.

there's even instant espresso that i really liked, because I can foam my own milk with a french press and have a latte at home.

It might depend on which part of the US you're from because certain areas definitely get more stock than others.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-10 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
i know that dumbdumb but it's already water, adding more water only dilutes it a little, it's not like adding diet pepsi. lots of people add additional water to what is already water flavored with some beans.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-10 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
but why would you dilute coffee is my question

theres no reason to, it only makes the flavor weaker. add less grounds if you want weaker coffee.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-10 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
because using more grounds will make it more bitter and achieving a weaker coffee by just brewing with a normal amount of beans and adding water after instead probably tastes better

(Anonymous) 2022-04-10 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry, meant to say that using not enough beans actually causes the coffee to be more bitter and gross

nayrt, I’m just hopping in here, but when I worked at a restaurant, we had one pot where we made coffee so it’s not really realistic to ask for your coffee to be made in a specific way.

also a lot of people who asked for water to dilute their coffee were elderly. we did have some younger folks who just wanted weaker coffee, but most were elderly.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-10 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember reading that some people are really weird about the optics of their coffee consumption. It was something like most people say they prefer bold but in practice weaker breakfast blends are the best sellers. Some people who think they have to have bold coffee will buy bold and artificially weaken their coffee with extras.

People are weird.

i guess im just insane for putting extra scoops of dark roast in mine when i brew it because weak/watery coffee tastes like sin to me (not the good kind)

(Anonymous) 2022-04-10 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
not really

using too much water to beans while brewing overextracts from the grounds which results in coffee thats both watery and too bitter

whereas adding water after the fact to weaken a properly brewed cup of coffee does not do this
