fuck sake. i knew this was a phenomenon i just thought all brains did this because i've seen multiple people talk about it, but without the context of it being ADHD. But the fact that this is, indeed, an adhd thing is just like honestly not fucking surprising AT AAAALL goddamnit lol

i literally do not know how he ever got work and then kept getting work jesus christ

funnily enough i forgot his name until you wrote it and was like...is this my character design nemesis? it looks like it. anad it was.

two and it could be harmless. more than that and it's probably an obsession, especially if there are OCs involved.

used to write with someone like this and assumed it was because they just liked the actor and his work. until they tried to share their rpf fanfic about him with me. they played at least 5 characters with his face. 3 of them in the same game at one point.

they later joined one of those 'celeb' games as the actor and had him divorce his wife to ship him with other celebrities, while playing his young kids as NPCs. very weird to say the least.

+1

getting dopamine for thinking about a task but not doing it is literally a symptom of adhd. brains wired with faulty dopamine receptors will get some dopamine for thinking about it (novelty! urgency! this is interesting!) so it is high reward/low effort, but the actual task itself will feel like a chore because the dopamine reward will be insufficient to make it worthwhile, so it is low reward/high effort.

adhd brains are literally not able to function the same as neurotypical brains. the fact that many people in dwrp have adhd/audhd explains a lot about why this hobby has such an issue with "flakes" and maintaining motivation.

for me it's not the rpf angle as much as the fact that it means they're probably playing characters they're not actually interested in and they're probably not great at writing them. playing a character just because they have the same face as the actor you're obsessed with isn't a great reason.

+1 setting aside all the other weird hangings of rpf there's also the plain fact that i've just never seen an rpf-fixated player actually provide particularly good fandom rp on dreamwidth lol

no distinct voices or fun use of the characters' individual qualities, they all thread virtually the same. it's clearly just about parading around the actor's face for that player

which suggests the existence of lesbians less than 100%

its so funny to say this when blue's main defining trait is their complete inability to be coherent for a single comment and ayrt was completely fine and understandable

good job showing the same amount of brainpower and social intelligence as the person youre trying to clown on, idiot

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
a sock doesnt help when youre tracking ips, blue

a vpn would though, to anyone observing who wants to take a crack at it

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
can you elaborate on the harm

They had the basis for a singleplayer game built up initially before ea switched it to a live service, and by all accounts the new version being showcased now is aligned with the tone and style of the original cancelled version (heist/noir overtones, smaller cast of characters)

not on dreamwidth. on a vpn you just show up as "([VPN IP]) [ORIGINAL IP]". it's why wankers can't dodge mods on anonmemes by using a vpn.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
dang

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
no? that's not how that works at all. it shows up as ([VPN IP]), end of story. the only time any other ip shows up is if you happen to also edit the comment as well, and then it shows a secondary ip.

go test it out in a journal you can fuck around in. log ips, make a post/comment on one of your journals, view the ip. then edit it. do one with the vpn on, one with it off. that's the only time it shows anything secondary. the whole point of a vpn is to hide your ip. it's not going to show up as your original if you're using one. mods are going off of 'this ip has shown up a lot and if i look it up, it's in a sussy vpn area like la or russia'.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
this is also how some of the mods of my old game knew when some players were tagging from home via work/transit. they knew their home ip, but sometimes the tags would come in from others and it was from work/on the way home.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
commercial vpn addresses are well known, as is their format, and they're identifiable from 'regular' ips. when anon mods on rpa spot an obvious vpn address, they assume (often wrongly, as we keep eyerolling here) the user is a wanker trying to slip thru the cracks and delete threads. dreamwidth itself isn't snitching on you for using a vpn, we're just at a point where vpns are so commonplace that you can't easily hide you're using one anymore, just your actual address. tbf, most vpn users have no interest in pretending they're regular ip users to escape the detection of trigger-happy mods in their fictional barbies hobby, so it's a pretty niche interest that vpn providers have yet to cater to.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm curious how you think this would work on a technical level

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, I forgot Dreamwidth has the most advanced IP detection tech in the world.

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
So did you just assume it works this way or

(Anonymous) 2024-06-11 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
they probably saw someone edited a comment with a vpn on and assumed thats how it always works, and that thats how mods recognize wankers instead of the fact that most vpns use a very easily identifiable pool of public ip addresses

ip logging isnt exactly the most common thing on here after all

well, yes

if your reaction upon seeing a man isn't either vomit-inducing nausea or murderous rage, you're at best 80% lesbian, maybe 90% if you don't shave or wax

To combat this, I normally don’t talk about the threads I want to do. We can pick a jumping off point and decide on an ultimate theme, but anything beyond that will ultimately ruin it for me and I won’t want to finish it.

When I’m talking about characters with my partner, I try to stick to things that I ultimately won’t care enough to thread, like abstract AU “wouldn’t it be cute if XYZ” sorta talk. I’ll also talk about how much I’ve enjoyed what’s happened so far in the thread, but I don’t like any kind of “what if we do this next?” because then the joy I’d get by writing it is sorta usurped by planning what it is I’m going to write, and the dopamine is already eaten up by talking about the thing rather than doing the thing.
