tbqh after that gameplay trailer i'm not sure anybody would want to waste the money. graphics are bad, characters are ugly, writing's painful. you can pick hot characters or good writing and get rpers out of either if not both, but you can't have neither.

unless all the hazbins are going to migrate to dragon age, but i'm not sure there'll be enough edgy vagina jokes or spork tuna bees or whatever

from the sounds of it in that article it wasn't their decision. probably some executive worried about offending the crowd that still thinks the harry potter books promote satanism

lol be serious. it's because the more options you have for character alignment, the more work you have to put into the game. having a spicy blood magic option means thousands of hours of extra coding to have unique dialogue, animations, story alternatives, ect ect and that's just a waste of money for this famously unethical company. they're trying to get ahead of comparisons to baldur gate 3 with it's fleshed out alignment paths. "our hero wouldn't do that" sounds better than "we didn't want to pay devs."

Re: DRAGON AGE

the problem is that goes against the ethos of every BioWare game going back all the way to KOTOR and Jade Empire

like okay fine 'our game our story' whatever

but then they have to admit that they're turning their back on the idea of having player choice that made them famous in the first place

Re: DRAGON AGE

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
who exactly is left to do any back turning? did you miss when bioware was bought out by EA, or when the original developers left and their main IPs went dormant? did you think the downhill slide stopped and they went back up? are you a time traveler from 2008?

Re: DRAGON AGE

(Anonymous) 2024-07-13 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
never really played a blood mage before anyway so this is whatever

Re: DRAGON AGE

(Anonymous) 2024-07-13 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
to me it's more the idea that it's 'too evil'

bioware was a game company that basically pioneered the option to have an evil route in video games going back all the way to the KOTOR series, and made romance options in rpgs popular. then they started moralizing in their games. i guess it was only a matter of time before they got rid of the 'evil option' altogether.

It's this for me, too, because it feels like another instance of something being dumbed down to be "safe" because no one has critical thinking or media literacy anymore.

Re: DRAGON AGE

you guys talk like using blood magic as the player character ever had actual impact on anything

Re: DRAGON AGE

mte. it wasn't even an option in the last game. looking for reasons to get pressed about this is twitter brainrot behavior.

it's the implication that it's 'too evil' for the PC

i.e. 'our PC isn't evil'

or in other words, 'you can't be evil anymore even though we've been allowing this in pretty much every rpg we ever made'

this isn't hard, anon

Re: DRAGON AGE

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
blood magic was a shitty specialty anyway, id rather they actually make useful ones.

Re: DRAGON AGE

(Anonymous) 2024-07-14 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
+1 it came with too many downsides for me to find it useful or fun when there were better, more enjoyable mage subclasses to play with.

the "too evil" justification is weird and i would have rather they just not give an explanation like that at all. but i'm not going to be pressed about it, esp if the game makes up for it with better subclasses.

this just sounds like more complaining for the sake of complaining about a game that isn't even out yet.

Re: DRAGON AGE

(Anonymous) 2024-07-15 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
yea the 'too evil' thing is eyerolly for an explanation, agreed there, but like

in my ideal dragon age game world rather than trying to merge it with combat tactics as a specialty id instead make it story mode options. like how in inquisition you had special dialogue choices at times for your race/class option, mages would every now and then get a little "blood magic?" option for solving problems. especially if it gave you an instant success for stuff it would hammer in how tempting it is and give more of a chance for genuine repercussions for using it.
