Boomerangers (I consider boomeranging taking between 1 to 5 minutes to tag) largely don't write good tags and it honestly feels desperate.

Taking an extra few minutes to reflect on your character, their motivations, and voice yields better RP. Groundbreaking.

this makes me wonder, what is generally considered boomeranging? to me boomeranging can mean up to an hour or so between tags, just as long as it's happening consistently

yeah i've always considered boomeranging to be responding to tags in a thread as soon as you get them, even if the actual response takes an hour or so.

When you have people making plans together like "hey can we boomerang starting at [specific time]" and also people talking about boomeranging as something they carve out time in their day for, I think it's safe to say that "boomerang tags" relates to how fast the back-and-forth is.

Maybe it wasn't originally defined like that, but it seems to be now.

As somebody who was around during ecats there was no planning involved but yes, going back and forth at a rapid pace (often as soon as it dropped via inbox) is what we referred to as boomeranging.

I'm not quite sure what the other person is talking about unless there's been a change in meaning.

op's entire complaint with boomerang tags hinges on the definition including "replies in 1-5 minutes".

Everyone I've ever boomeranged tags with could still take upwards of 30 minutes to reply, and it'd still be considered boomeranging if we're only tagging each other back and forth multiple times in one sitting.

So this is not a complaint with boomerang tags specifically, just with low-effort tags.

outside ecats, the meaning has changed. boomerang now means replying consistently as the replies come in. i "boomerang" but a reply can take anywhere between 20 minutes and 1+ hour depending.

within ecats/commentspam games boomeranging still means quick-paced, almost exclusively dialog tags at the rate of one every few minutes. esp in team/murder games where there's a time limit before the murder happens.
