In the case of this situation because of the canon, it's because the WoL was poly and the player would pursue multiple romantic partners in a game. It didn't feel like a gift for them and more like a trophy for the WoL player to show off to their friends, if that makes sense.

When she shared commissions of Megumi paired with various NPCs, she's never stated they were gifts to any particular player, so they seemed to be bought just for herself and this image for her friend circle that Megumi is this perfect girlfriend for any attractive male character.

Her habits border on an unhealthy obsession if you ask me. Some of her public opinions on characters have done a 180 just to get a commission from a high profile artist who likes and draws that character, like G'raha Tia and Emet Selch. Now I'm betting she's looking for artists to draw her with Erenville.

agreed tbh. i know plenty of people who have gotten commissions of their wols with their favorite npcs but it's always the same one or two npcs so it feels like any other canon/fanon ship that someone just happens to like.

in this case it feels like what you said, like she's trying to set up this image that megumi is the perfect woman that all attractive men should want and it's honestly kind of creepy given how much she obviously projects onto the character.

The projection is funny when you realize one of the reasons she commissions so much is that she's actually quite picky and never satisfied with her commissions no matter how much she spends. When they miss out on details she never actually specified to them or noticed herself that they were wrong until the art is complete, she gets really passive aggressive toward the artist while fishing for compliments to make her feel better.
