I love neopronouns tbh, it's irritating that when people finally clocked nonbinary as an identity that they just made it into another rigid gender box with one set of pronouns to use

I can't take people seriously if they're making up pronouns for themselves like crabself or something.

and they're entering the workforce now. my company's had more than one applicant using tumblr uwu/uwus/uwuself type pronouns apparently in all seriousness. i'm not sure what they were hoping to accomplish.

This shit makes it harder for people to use standard pronouns and it's unrealistic to expect everyone to remember made up pronouns.

Exactly. That they unironically believe recruiters will not throw out applications with nonsense like this means they are in for a rude awakening.

yeah. it's been a struggle getting people in my professional life to even use they/them for me, and i'm misgendered on a daily basis by people i've worked with for a decade. and after the latest uwuself applicant my boss acted like my preferred gender neutral pronouns are as nonsensical as shit like that.

i will happily use he, she, and they. anything else requires me to memorize some weird nonstandard pronoun for someone in a way English doesn't typically work and that's my line in the sand.

I default to they actually since it's just easiest.

same... i mean if they put it on their zoom name then i'll use whatever pronoun they have, including It, but if they don't i am defaulting to they because if you want a specific thing for people to remember all the time you better make it easy to adjust and accept that they'll fuck up often.

maybe in the distant future where they aren't trying to genocide trans and gnc people across the world we can revisit this but for now anyone that tries to make this happen off of tumblr is actively harming themselves and other people. we are struggling to get normies on board with using preferred names and preferred pronouns, this just gives them ammunition when they try to claim it's mental illness for all of us because it sure looks like mental illness to walk into a job and say your pronouns are uwu/uwuself

listen i'm a crusty older millennial that also rolls my eyes when neopronouns and shit like that comes up, but we need to not act like people using that as an excuse to be transphobic are somehow less to blame than the people just innocently if cringe-ly using neopronouns are. if your boss is being shitty and transphobic about they/them because they're conflating it with neopronouns, that's your boss's damage and no fault of some goofy tumblr uwuself kid

i think they're fine to use on Tumblr. but in real life we don't get a buffer of thinking time to remember "oh yeah so-and-so is not one of the three standard pronouns i am accustomed to using effortlessly in my native language, uwu is uwuself and i must respond accordingly"

i just don't think that's a reasonable request at like... work. where people need to use their brainpower for more productive things than making you feel like the sparkleprincess of the ball.

it's still not fine on tumblr. making up totally incoherent ways to refer to yourself and then demanding everyone comply annoying in any context. those things aren't about identification they're about being annoying and attention-seeking and people who do it should go sit in the basement with the rabies pride people and not speak to others.

i hate the tumblr did community and how they expect you to NOT think it's a made up mental illness to pretend to have a bunch of fictional characters in your head but instead smth people should respect.

sorry to say this has existed long before tumblr was a thing. the "final fantasy 7 house" pre-dates tumblr and was probably one of the worst cases of that i have ever seen.
