you definitely don't have to "lower your standards" to get threads unless there's something weird about your character choice or your own writing, sorry to say

you don't always have to do, but let's be real here. a lot of the people who post most frequently to bakerstreet are there because they can't get into games. or maybe they could get in, but they'd struggle with plotting/making ac/writing on par with their thread partners. in a game, you can choose to ignore the people who are obviously ooc or write only one-liners because they tend to be a small minority. on bakerstreet, you make do with what you have.

yes that is my point. for every blue and dark there’s tons of perfectly serviceable rpers. there used to be way more blues and darks than there is now.

in games it's considered rude af if you try to ignore the premise of the game, castmates you don't care for, or characters you're not interested in, esp if they tag into you first. you're obliged to at least communicate with them, and a more enclosed community with enforced continuity also means others in-game are going to notice either way, if they're not directly impacted by it

meanwhile on memes wordless ghosting is a norm and you can completely curate your own experience, from the people you choose to play with to the premises you want to thread. being able to just hop from one thread to another without having to fuss about continuation or time limits at all is the primary appeal over games

on bakerstreet you absolutely do not have to make do with what you have, you pick whatever you want. everything you do in there is entirely your own choice.
