not only that, it's not even like final fantasy or persona or fire emblem where all of the games in the series have largely the same type of setting and premise. genshin is generic fantasy while hsr has a much stronger sci-fi/space lean with fantasy elements. the type of cr they're likely to attract is going to have a much larger gap than the cr that characters from persona 5 and persona 3 would attract, for example.

no comment on hsr vs. genshin but final fantasy absolutely doesn't have the same setting and premise across the games, what even

all mihoyos attract the same cr: other mihoyos and people who like both genshin and hsr. this is like across games, across memes, across all of dwrp lol. pretending they attract different cr because one of them is set in space is silly

from my experience, genshins and hsrs attract the same kind of players, no different from personas or final fantasys (which this one are all VERY different from each other too. the only thing they have in common is the name) or mcu/dcu or etc.

like i agree it isn't really an issue personally if someone plays from both games, but saying they attract different crowds isn't quite true. i don't know if it warrants a franchise cap.

not in the game so no horse in this race regarding franchise caps, but as someone who plays from both games it isn't true they attract the same crowds. in terms of players anyway, the types of players seeking cr is probably similar. the majority of genshin players i've met don't like hsr at all and won't touch characters from it

if someone plays hsr or zzz they probably play genshin, if someone plays genshin they might not play hsr or zzz

yeah, this has been my experience too - there's definitely some overlap but i know a lot of people who play one but not the other. meanwhile with stuff like final fantasy and persona, almost everyone i know who is into those has played all of them even if they don't play FROM all of them.

yeah, that's my experience with ff, persona, even fire emblem too. meanwhile mhy, i've seen genshin players go off on hsr unprompted and won't shut up about how much they hate the game. others are more indifferent but still prefer to play with genshins only. even outside the story, i encountered a couple baffling players last year boycotting the free limited 5-star in hsr because genshin didn't have a free 5-star

it isn't every player, there is an overlap sometimes. but there is a division even if it might not be noticeable to people outside the fandom

there are two whole persona fans on this site who've touched anything before p3 and you know it

maybe the pre-p3 players are off with that mythical crowd of pre-ff7 players

i've actually seen at least 5 different people playing from p2, surprisingly enough

early [ersona/megaten fans are rare here but we do exist. considering i'm one and i've seen multiple people play from p2 that aren't me, there's more than two in dwrp.

that said, i wish more people played from the P2 with the adult cast.

I’m not a persona player but I don’t play from older games in the series I do play from mostly because of icons.

People care a lot about icons and with old games they’re difficult.

My bad, I worded that wrong. I meant the people who tag them tend to be a similar crowd, not the one who plays from them. This again isn't an issue on any side, just that I can see why people would assume people who tag genshins would also want to tag hsrs. I don't believe this means they shouldn't be allowed to play from both canons though, and that it is even silly for me that people think that.

I don't think I know a lot of FFs who play from more than two games myself, but I can believe that.

that's fair. i can't speak of the cr because i'm not in the game so i can't tell but i don't think you're wrong about the people who tag them being same crowd

regarding franchise, i guess cause i don't know if anyone else has brought this up and i guess now that i'm here i might as well try to add something

the unknown god in the opening of genshin has similarities to kiana kaslana, one of the playable characters in hi3. no confirmation she's the same character and there probably will never be. genshin raiden is based on hi3 raiden mei with a very different story, yae miko shares a design with sakura yae (hi3). iirc these are the only outright expies but you can squint and find more (venti/wendy, mavuika/himeko)

hi3 and hsr are more complicated. hsr takes place in a different universe than hi3 but welt and voice archives i believe are outright the same characters from hi3, they just hopped dimensions. acheron is raiden mei with some tweaks to the story, himeko has a hi3 counterpart but isn't the same person. luocha is an otto expy, phainon is a kevin expy, anaxa seems to be a su expy. then there's obviously bronya and seele (different characters, share a name. bronya and silver wolf are the "same person" in hsr but different versions of the same hi3 character)

genshin and hsr ties: i think there's an easter egg somewhere on the herta space station that speaks of teyvat but it's been a long time since i saw it. it's pretty nothing, and more of a nod to it because it's the same dev than a hint they're part of the same continuity/universe

i assume hi3 and hsr are being treated as the same franchise

Raiden ei is actually more in line with Dr. MEI both personality and story wise than she is Raiden Mei. Makoto (ei's dead twin) and by extension scaramouche/wanderer is more like Raiden Mei as far as themes and character growth.

Hi3 collab with hsr confirms they share the same universe, actually, and states that the cocoon of finality is what keeps Earth out of reach from Aeons

There are actually CGs of Dvalin on Otto's console at one point when the company was teasing the announcement of genshin.

Anyway this is just how hoyoverse has operated since the dawn of time. Honkai Gakuen/Guns Girl Z is just another example. I'd say the only games they make that are exempt from this shared universe are their otome Tears of Themis and Zenless Zone Zero.

i believe one of the hsr characters has a phone case that shows the tears of themis boys (pela) but that's all i know about unless there's more in themis, which i don't play. haven't seen anything in zzz, but a phone case is hardly proof of anything. i don't remember seeing anything at all in zzz, so you're right about them being exempt

hi3 and hsr are definitively in a kind-of shared universe

zzz and tot have no relation

genshin only has easter eggs that have never been hard confirmed as anything other than easter eggs

da popping in - I think the fact that people disagree on who interacts oocly and that you have to research to figure out what game blends where means that it just makes sense to keep them separate. No games I know of have them under one cap, maybe for this reason.

If you did do that, then you’d also have to look at all the other semi-connected series and figure out if they toe the line of sitting under franchise cap or canon cap… that would be difficult to judge too. I can see it being a headache to split hairs on this.

We also got away from the original point of "just because I CAN app video game sonic, movie shadow, and comics silver and play all of them in the same dwrp game doesn't mean I should"

it would actually be more accurate to frame it as someone playing from multiple Tales Of games at the height of their popularity in a capped game. especially considering there are only what? two sex games now with karteria opening up? dup doesn't really count since anybody interested either already plays there or has played there and moved on
