shonen sucks because over and over its writers give more chemistry to the guys fighting each other for the entire series then act surprised pikachu when the fandoms ship them more than the random women they pity assign them

i don't think i've ever seen the authors surprised by it. they seem to know exactly what they're doing. it's the shonenbros and certain shippers who pull the surprised pikachu face when no one cares about their boring ship. even deku/uraraka shippers seem bored with it themselves. i've never seen them talk about why they like the ship or what's compelling about it (probably nothing), only bring it up to cry that the gay ship shouldn't exist or be popular because it killed their grandma or whatever

Companies and authors do it on purpose. It's good for marketing because you get an extra demographic who would be interested in the possibilities without committing. The ones who get angry about it are usually in denial of the subtext and crying there's none of it.

My current fandom baits a ship a lot and it's pretty much in every content they have and the dudebros are still denying it in favor of their het ship.

Naruto is too obsessed with sasuke to be straight and i say this as someone who rooted for naruhina before shippuden

i used to think they were cute but god the girls in this series got sidelined hard by the end.
