eventually WoW characters do become the head of their class hall, and the Maw Walker, and restore the dragon aspects, and i forget what else. but i've never seen anyone play a WoW character as compliant with the game storyline, they're usually just random adventurers.

i imagine ffxiv rp as being a lot of characters accusing each other of lying very loudly

even if you did rp as head of your class hall or something, it is really easy to work around. i once tagged another WoW character who was played as head of the same class hall, and we had a really fun thread because different timelines are canon for the game, so it was entirely plausible that they were both head of their class hall.

this is something that tends to only happen in dwrp though. it is an unspoken rule in WoW rp that no one ever claims to be the one special guy who did the thing because it will get you literally laughed off the server. since my OC is very unlikely to encounter another WoW OC in dwrp i add in some of those specific details but it is optional.

in-game, ffxiv rp is more like wow rp in that there's a quiet rule that no, you're not the chosen one, and if you try to rp the chosen one you'll just get ignored while people rp around you

but here yes people get upset about which one of their blorbos is the TRUE blorbo, which has definitely contributed to their rep. as much as other malleable protags may be annoying, i've only ever see wols do that.
