not entirely related but has this been a trend lately. i've been on dwrp a while and the amount of characters instantly traumadumping on mine and/or the player trying to badly make a point of how Fucked Up and Crazy their character is has been notable lately

i can't remember it being this prevalent or it might just be the game i'm in

yeah. i'm having fun with that too, ie character having a moment of awareness that what they were about to say sounds fcking weird and willfully toning it down. it's a little bit funny and at least and doesn't force other random characters they just met to have to interact with the "OMGG look how CRAZY i am"

just got done with a thread where my maniac was trying so hard to prove they can be perfectly normal by showing off pictures of their cat in embarrassing outfits

i also love characters who icly don't give a shit because they're killed god or whatever

so many fun ways to approach that are not jughead riverdale in case you haven't noticed i'm weirda maniac

if you're humble and cool about it ooc, being self aware is great and funny

if you're hyper defensive and weird about it ooc and self aware that's like the worst combination tbh

I feel like this has always been an RP trend, people generally don't know how to naturalistically depict trauma in a way for other characters to pick up on. It doesn't help that a lot of canons can be 'show don't tell' about that too

nor can you always count on any other rper to pick up on your "subtle" hooks, so there is a tendency to state things very clearly

some people are better at going about that in a literary way than others

probably more the character i'm playing rn instead of the game, then. (they're an obscure "nice" presenting villain, which makes them knowing a character's entire tragic backstory within a single thread feel especially strange).

it could also be that people are trying to fast track cr. instead of characters gradually getting to know each other over multiple threads it's like handwaving an info dump to get to h/c.
