Just curious - why is that?

DA, but 'fandom first' rules don't curve poor OCs, they just delay them. Good OC players will be able to play good OCs from the get-go. Yes, you could get an idea of the player's writing skills from their fandom character playing, but a fandom character is still a different ballpark from an OC. I've known tons of people who can play fandom characters wonderfully, then fail hard at their own OCs.

I've never understood what that rule was trying to accomplish other than to deter OC players entirely.

This keeps me from apping to games, period. It's a stupid rule.
