1. That players can't just suck it up and deal. Ever. Ever ever.

2. If you don't like an event/plot development/player plot that is opt in. Don't do it. Don't make (unsure) faces and talk about how the game isn't catering itself to your preferences alone.

3. That people assume mods are canon savvy in everything that comes their way. Some bad apps will get through. We scan the wiki page, do a quick look for a blurb/cut-scene/trailer and if it seems to hit the main points and the sample is readable, then it's in.

4. That players can't take responsibility for themselves at all. It's always another player's fault, or the mods' fault. Never themselves.

5. >Have one major event every six weeks/two months
>Wah the game is moving too slowly
>Have one major event every four weeks/one month
>Wah the game is moving too quickly

goddamn, all of this

especially #3- we do our best to keep bad apps out, but mistakes, misjudgments, and misinformation (especially in the case of relying on fandom wikis, because yes, they can be sparse, outdated, outright wrong or even nonexistent) do happen

Exactly.

For all we know, the horribly OOC version of the character WROTE the wiki page. It's all we have to go on, adding a quick google search into the character too (which usually just pulls up the wiki again).

I would love to magically know all the nuances of every character and if they're good or bad when they app. I don't, the rest of my team don't, so some bad apps will slip through.

I don't even mind if players point out some bad apps got through. It's the loud calling of NO APP STANDARDS! and OMG HOW COULD THE MODS EVER DO THAT ARE THEY BLIND?!?!?! that annoy me.

all of this holy shit

people need to calm their tits. it's almost like they believe agreeing to be a mod means you're gifted with in-depth knowledge of every character. or they demand even more research than you do, then complain apps take too long to judge.

I need some more mod friends so I can bitch about this sort of stuff.

It irrationally angers me how many players love to bitch and moan, or give 'helpful' advice (which is basically just 'do it in a way I would prefer and fuck everyone else'). I, and the rest of the mods I know, put in a tremendous amount of work to make the game work.

Of course we make mistakes, we're only human. I don't mind having mine pointed out to me in a civil manner. But I can count on one hand the amount of times people actually come and complain to the mods through official channels about bad characterization/bad apps/bad players instead of whining the game is shit and the mods have no standards.

And not only that, there are some people who can write a good app, but their playing is incredibly shitty. Sometimes their playing will completely contradict the app because it's not too hard to reword information from wikis just to get in. There's really nothing a mod can do about that until the player's in and starts playing.

I'll add to say that the first one should have within reason, because I've been on both sides--and as a player, that first one--the deal with it attitude from mods--should only be over certain things. If they're making the game where you can't effect plot at all, then yeah, players don't have to Deal With It.

I feel like I could have written #3 with how my game's getting skewered every time someone sees an app get through that they don't approve of. Especially here on wankgate.

This comm never stops to realize that there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of people reading this comm and of course there's always going to be someone who knows That Player, knows the details, knows the canon better... we're two people. We try hard to do our best. All we can do is do what we can and deal with problems if they come up in game.

Serious advice: cultivate some helpers that are familiar with big canons that you're not, and ask them to look things over for you. People should seriously chill about bad apps slipping through here and there, but like you said, there *are* tons of people around how know this or that canon/player/situation better than you, and if you can get some whose judgment you trust, they can be a way better resource than wikis.

Appreciate it, anon. That's definitely the plan once we get to know some of our players a little better. We're reaching out to friends when we can, but it's still a lot of bumps and kinks to iron out. We'll get there. :)
