Why do they have to go to another game if it was a relationship they were already developing?
Why can't they instead, I don't know, work around the emotional conflict of the one character having to decide between the old-relationship (canon) and the new one (game) and see what happens? Why do they have to automatically run back into the arms of the new character? Does the player of the new character even want to ship with the other character anyway?
the player of the new character definitely wants to ship it and my partner does seem interested in shipping it as well despite our plotting. in the game the other character and mine haven't exactly shown signs of romantic interest, just friendly flirting. it was something that was going to be slow-building. emotional conflict would probably seem to come out of nowhere, and it would be ooc for the character not to go back to their canon relationship. there's a chance, but i'm not holding my breath for it to happen.
i knew in the back of my mind the canon romance interest could have been apped, but i'm still peeved about it. i really just wanted to vent anonymously to get it out of my system so i wouldn't be a killjoy for the other two players.
i've been on the other end of this - i apped in a character's canon romantic interest when (unknown until recently to me) they'd already been having some flirting cr with a cross-canon character. it hadn't developed into a full-blown relationship, but enough hints were eventually dropped in-game and in game-linked memes that i quickly put two-and-two together and realized what was going on.
and it sucks. chances are, your new player who apped in has already been killjoy'd. if they're still there, they obviously don't care about it, but for me it's ruined the in-game ship and affected our cr, and i have no idea how to extricate myself in an IC fashion except to just up and leave the game.
...Wow, you sound butthurt. Face it: you apped in second. They were there for a long time, long enough to express interest in another character. It's a risk you have to be willing to take. The players in a game don't have to instantly drop any and all romantic CR just because you bring in the canon love interest. It is easily spun as them growing apart and moving on because your character wasn't there.
You are not entitled to a ship, and it sounds like you went in EXPECTING this ship.
Yeah, this is why if I was planning on bringing in a character with existing CR with a character already in the game....I'd try to talk to the other player first and figure out how it's going to go since my character might significantly affect theirs.
the other players didn't HAVE romantic cr yet...only a passing flirtation. but ooc-ly they talked and hinted at how they'd been planning it to turn into more, even after my character had already gotten in and hooked up with the canon interest.
i didn't feel entitled to the ship; i even sensed something was off and i asked my canonmate if they shipped the pairing, and if they didn't or didn't want to play it out in-game, that was okay with me. they said 'nono it's okay, i like this ship'.
then they proceeded to start dropping tags and seeking out the cross-canon character for more cr. awkward.
tbh it sounds less like they thought they were entitled to a ship, and more that they felt they walked into an awkward situation. i know that if i apped a canon love interest into a game like that without knowing about it first, i'd feel awkward.
