Still huge to me, my graduating class was 20 and there were no holdbacks. My school only had 120 people k-12.

1400+ kids were the entirety of my senior class

we had overcrowding issues






the point is considering how big fandom is, 1.2k people is not a lot. it's a sizable amount of people, but unless we're getting fresh blood at a consistent rate, a lot of people will feel like it's small because the pool is full of the same shit.

I've only been journal RPing since the last like two years we were on LJ so maybe I missed a huge heyday where we had thousands upon thousands of people, but to me it feels like we were never much bigger than that in the first place. Maybe a few thousand people instead of just 1200, but I'd be really surprised if we ever reached 10K, let alone were a sizable chunk of people who consider themselves part of "fandom."

and fewer of us had been in games together at that point and weren't as used to each other as we are now after four more years on plurk. plurk and new games make the dwrp world seem much smaller, but i've been around for 10 years and there are still a lot of well-known players i've never been in a game with.

actually I would had pegged us for a significantly higher amount during those last two years

the fandom_counts community which was made during strike through or one of the mass bannings currently has over 25k members. a lot of them probably are duplicate journals since people were encouraged to sign up on all their fandom journals, butI remember there being a lot more than what's listed now. I want to say there was 40 or 50k before inactive accounts started being deleted but that's just how I remember it.

but no, lj fandom was really huge back in the day and ljrp fed off of it because people would advertise in the fandom communities. there were a ton of games that would open and be passed along by word of mouth, and no one really cared if they were similar. I think I was in 3 KH-based games at the same time at one point.

all estimates before this poll were completely informal so short of asking denise (which afaik no one ever did) no one had hard numbers of any kind
