a lot of the time, when people SUPER WANT a certain character but can't attract or keep one it's because they want a chew toy. if you really want a character and are making them feel welcome, they won't be hard to keep.
while i definitely know exactly what you're talking about, i genuinely do want a Viv bc we could use a Loyalist Mom and it would be great to get CR with her (if she would deign to notice my dude, which, I understand, is not a guarantee). we COULD use a lot more steady loyalists in FR and it would be super duper nice to have them--and the mods are extremely encouraging of them OOC & want to retain loyalist players!!
buuuut all that said and notwithstanding my own desires, you are right there are people in the game who want Viv around so they can have a chewtoy. which sucks!!
I don't go to this game, but you're a good egg, anon. I hope you can somehow get a Viv/more loyalist CR for your character, because unfortunately the other anons have a point. Being that one person playing a character that others just want as a chewtoy would be difficult to maintain long term, but if there's someone out there who can manage a Lady of Iron and not be discouraged by those things, I'd love to see it!
it's no fun being the chewtoy. it'd have to be a lot of loyalists joining at once so it isn't like two people against an entire playerbase that just wants to chew up a character for having different opinions. the game is pretty pro-mage rights icly and so anyone with different views is going to have a rough time.
that's about how people lose muses and stop even wanting to be part of the fandom in the first place under such a chewed up situation.
that's a definite concern, yeah. but it is more than just two people right now (mercifully) and there are things we could be doing as loyalist players to coordinate a little better so we have some more IC security--something i've been meaning to do but have not yet been able to, really.
part of the--i won't call it a problem, but part of the reason why the dynamic is weighted very heavily toward the mage rights side of things is the rifters; it's unusual you'll have a rifter come in who either talks to a loyalist first or hears the mage rights line and has questions about it rather than accepting mages need total freedom now. THAT SAID, a lot of the players are very chill ooc and appreciate the stress people are under from negative CR, and are comfy talking about it. even then, it can be tough.
so i guess what i'm saying is while i super-want a Viv i don't want a Viv who comes in unaware of the fact it may be rough going even if we loyalists all buddy up together
yeah. it's more of a general "only two people in a sea of pro-mage" comment. but i get what you're saying. it's hard to get that sort of momentum up in-game in order to make for a loyalist movement, too. like the loyalists group is a lot just in general numbers (just due to non-mage types) in-canon. so it's equally rough for loyalist characters to join and be the huge minority in the game since that's not what they know to be true in the world itself. granted, they can think of a lot of reasons why they should be there, for sure, but when they're not being fully heard feels like that'd be part of the problem, too.
and rifters is another situation reason for sure that makes things rough. 'cause they're coming into a new world and just decide that this situation (pro-mage rights) should be the one to go with, and that their opinion is being considered to matter to the world.... it's very mean girls moment of having rifters talk pro-mage and going: "SHE DOESN'T EVEN GO HERE!" hahaha
so i am not knocking you, loyalist anon. you seem like as another anon said very good egg and good people. so i'm glad that when they talk to you that they're pretty chill and understanding about the negative cr. but yeah, i can see how it'd still be tough just from what we're talking about in general. but still it's good that you're still having fun and honestly want to make a situation good for a player that'd be joining in (and also willing to let 'em know that it'll be rough).
i just wish there was a better situation for those characters 'cause i mean, the pro-mage players get what they want out of it, but loyalist characters aren't really getting what they fully want out of the game. and that seems unfortunate. but hopefully, that'll change soon for ya, anon.
aaaawww, thank you anon!! and what you & the other anons have to say is true and i will not dispute it; it's something i have wrestled with and know a lot of other loyalist players have said they wrestle with. but i hang on to the fact even though that's what my brain is doing when i'm in isolation ("oh no everyone is trying to chew me to death!"), when i talk to other people in the game they are generally really positive and kind about it.
