I'm just not sure what those other people are hoping to get out of the thread when they go this route. Smokers already know smoking is bad, and your character getting preachy isn't going to be the sudden revelation that frees mine from their bad habits. And I, the player, am not a smoker, so what's the point?

At best my character will bow out of the thread to go somewhere else; at worst they will tell yours to fuck off and mind their own business. Either way, it seems like a dead end for CR.

Stop treating your friends as therapists, expect them to be your therapists and demand them to be your therapists. Venting is fine, but if you are doing it everyday and you need to be told off a cliff every single day, you need real help.

I hope you get it, depression and mental illness is a bitch. But you need wake up and realize by being so bitter that people aren't making you feel better about yourself 24/7, you are driving everyone away. Just like you drove me.

i can understand identifying or seeing a character's experiences as similar to your own but i tend to avoid people that play them as autistic or having any sort of disorder (autism just seems to be one of the more prevalent ones)

Especially because it's much easier to simply lean into the traits the character already has that might mean they're on the spectrum without putting a word to it. But that would require dwrper to not soap box or be IC so it doesn't happen often.

I mean this is fair but also the TF have canon pronouns that they use and of course male skewed traits and voices. There are female skewed characters as well. It's a toy company made show from the 80s having characters be NB or something would never have happened.

yeah the hypocrisy is what gets to me, especially in panfandom games where a character might encounter villains/criminals/murderers or other people who do bad things and don't care, but the lectures are always about.. smoking and binge drinking???

if anyone does it to me these days I just drop the thread immediately and avoid them for tags in the future. it's so boring.

It reminds me of this tumblr discord rp my friend is in with someone who shakes and cries if Weed is mentioned but not heroin, alcohol, or other addictions. I wonder if they'd be upset by the smoking too...

Not an excuse, because it's still just bad writing and OOC, but it goes back to watching an action hero get stabbed 27 times and not flinching, but wincing when they walk on broken glass barefoot. The player cannot imagine interacting with violent murderers in that capacity, as viewers have no 'that time I got violently stabbed over and over' tab in their memories to reference, but they are familiar with people who smoke and drink and have lectures ready, just as they're familiar with stepping on pointy things.

i'd read that visual novel tbh

all the 2edgy4u suicidal csa victim frisks and charas. one is stated to hate humanity and the other is asked if they came to mt ebott to disappear, and the rpers always take that as an excuse to slip their personal irl traumas and gender issues into most of their threads. i remember seeing one particularly uncomfortable game thread where asgore hugged chara because he was just happy to see his dead adopted child again and the chara started having rape flashbacks and to this day i wonder if that was even cleared with the asgore player first.

I played in a game with a Chara like this who would occasionally mention csa without warnings and would get incoherently angry ic and ooc if someone icly misgendered Chara (who they played as non-binary)

as a trans person, i find a lot of trans headcanons weird and fetishy or just not supported by canon at all

i spend a lot of time on tumblr and the general school of thought seems to be that they need no justification, so i think this phenomenon is probably coming from that direction (especially considering the fetishistic nature of these headcanons because oh lord). but that doesn't really fly here and people should know that

like, do i wish there were more trans characters? yes, but artificially pasting this experience (and there's no singular Trans Experience, mind) onto some random character and REALLY emphasizing things like their agab, body shape, surgery scars, etc. and brining it up randomly and frequently ain't it
