You know there's a difference between having a dark and controversial headcanon and a dark and controversial headcanon that you spring randomly on people without warning in other people's plurks right?

I wrote this when I was emotional and tired. I'm not saying I'm completely over it because I'm not but it was reactive.

I don't want to go into a lot of detail but I did change my behavior at first before it reverted again, so I can see why said person was disillusioned. There's no point into going into the why's now. As for making them wait, I had some serious life issue stuff going on at the time which affected my patience and tolerance for rp related issues severely. Looking back I should have just stopped rp for that time, I tried to explain it to said person but I did react poorly and I am one of those anxiety chihuahuas. I think they ran out of patience.

You may be right that I'm not owed an apology but I still would have appreciated one because I can't say we were just strangers. Shit just hurts but I don't blame them either and I'm frustrated at myself for letting a hobby ruin a friendship.

That's a pretty common trope in anime and manga as well, not just JRPGs. But yeah, it's still irritating, especially when a character's insecurity about her boob size is constantly played for laughs.

Yeah I said jrpgs because that's the thing i'm most into but it's really prevalent all over the place. Annoying

Fwiw I was expecting my response to be ignored or met with defensiveness, but your openness and willing to look back and reflect is way more mature than what I recently saw a person in your shoes react with. Honestly it’s more mature than a lot of what I see in dwrp these days. Like I said in my first comment, I’m pretty jaded about the social part of this hobby. But I will still say that you seem like you’d already handle this differently now than you did in the moment and that’s good. I’m not trying to be condescending though it probably still comes off that way, but no, I’m genuinely impressed.

The jackass character who's a dick to everyone, but people put up with it because they're good at their job (i.e. Dr. House, Cumberbatch!Sherlock).

I hate the trope in fiction in general, but oh god is it so much worse in RP. Characters in those types of series generally put up with this shit because the character saves lives in some fashion. You aren't saving anyone's life by busting into my threads to be obnoxious, bb

I knew someone who played Tonks from Harry Potter and specifically wrote a backstory where she was raped as a kid for being a half-blood child.

The part that made it real bad was how it was used to shut down any other character's troubles in her threads. Your character got murdered in canon? Not as sad as her backstory! Your character was betrayed by a loved one! Not bad enough! Your character also got raped? Hope you like comparing sexual assaults so she can tell you hers was worse!

I hate ppl like this. Like irl too. They always one up every suffering you've ever had. Totally impossible to talk to about anything.

I will forgive any anime or JRPG that has pulled this shitty trope if at least one has the balls (snrk) to do this.

bored geniuses. there's just nothing interesting to me about someone who just flops around listlessly because they're so much better than everyone. the only exceptions are when a character gets shown up relatively early in the series - it's not so much them getting knocked down a peg, but it can be fun to see someone or something light a fire under their ass. it just has to happen before i get completely sick of the characte, or else i won't care.

sweet kind-hearted girl whose predominant, possibly only, flaw is that she's clumsy

i absolutely loathe the girl next door/bubbly kouhai archetype in animanga series. some people seem to find a character that constantly bleats SENPAI SENPAI SENPAI and latches onto the MC like glue cute, but i just find it insufferable. even more so if ship wars nonsense is going on.

as someone has had to be the support for a friend in this situation, the worst thing that you can do it 'give them space' and ignore them. it's disrespectful to someone who has been there for you and who you have taken advantage of in your own difficult time. you owe it to the relationship to just be the bigger person and sort this out, it's probably going to be welcome, even if they reinforced a boundary with you. They were loyal enough to see you through something, i'm sure they'd be willing to listen.
