I had an rp friend once who got unusually upset because I told her that I drank cold milk out of my mug every day because it's something I've done since I was a kid. I just prefer a mug to a cup and enjoy it. Makes me feel like it keeps the drink colder or whatever.

She flipped out and went off on me saying mugs were only for hot drinks and that her mum would slap it out of my hands if I did that at their house. And other really weirdly angry things.

Was she weird or is this a normal sentiment among British people that you are absolutely forbidden to drink cold things out of a mug?

so i'm british and i agree, glasses for cold drinks, mugs for hot. because you can't put boiling liquids in a glass and ... the mugs ... will get sad? idk

i like drinking milk out of mugs. or most cold drinks. means that i don't have to potentially warm it up before i'm finished by holding the glass itself, and i'm less likely to worry about a slip with condensation on the outside of a cold glass of liquid. muglife thuglife.

hahahahaha yeah i realised this is exactly what it is. drinking cold drinks out of mugs is common. this is why the friend's mom got *so* mad ("she would hit it out of your hand!"), the mom is terrified of seeming poorer than they are. and this is why it looks dumb to everyone else because it is.
