they must be embarrassed that the game they rushed open in a week flopped.

What did they do to you that you're still harping on this one point

it's for the best. no one deserves to have to moderate in this community. they have been saved from thankless work.

i hope someday all the mods can be free, we suck.

Re: MAJORITY RULE

Isn't that a good thing? It failed because the mods rushed and no one heard about it, not because it was objectively bad or wanky. With some revisions and taking more time with it, it would probably do well. I would give it another shot if the mods tried again.

Re: MAJORITY RULE

(Anonymous) 2023-03-02 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
idk. if I were them I would have decided not to bother after people started bitching so hard about the game not being perfect. I don't think it says great things the community can be so effusively negative about new games that running them seems like it would be the worst experience.

this is why i was hoping we wouldn't get a new post

too many people here who hate DWRP and are just here to watch it burn. if you want the hobby to die out so bad, start by leaving. it can't be fun for you to hang out somewhere you hate so much.

Re: MAJORITY RULE

(Anonymous) 2023-03-02 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
This is why you make an interest check and get feedback on your ideas. It wasn't that it was imperfect, it was that ten days later the TDM was dead and the app comment hadn't been updated and people and didn't want to handwave a lot of CR time. Those are things they could've changed in the draft phase if they had had one. If the mods are so sensitive that they would find that kind of reasonable feedback objectionable, they're too sensitive to mod in the first place.

i like playing here i just think the way moderators are treated is fucked up. they're unpaid volunteer dms. this latest fiasco is an example of how many trash people we have.

i have a theory that people treat moderators the way they do because they have no control over their real lives and are playing out some power fantasy to make themselves feel better about it. the people i have personally known to be the most negative and vicious about mods and games all invariably have shit lives.

I'm all for being kinder to mods on average but that doesn't mean never ever being critical of a game. It was literally just a few anxious people wondering why no one had apped and a couple anons following up with some mild and reasonable criticism.

We don't need to keep harping on it but the comments weren't mean-spirited attempts to smother a new game or anything like that. People are allowed to talk about what put them off.

Re: MAJORITY RULE

(Anonymous) 2023-03-02 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
this wasn't vicious behavior, though? it was people giving a few valid reasons why they didn't apply. I have modded before and there was plenty to be frustrated about, but something like that rpanons thread wouldn't even have been on my radar. it's just crit, and crit that would be helpful if they decide to take another go at it.

I agree that people should be nicer to mods on average but that doesn't mean no criticism is ever allowed. and if you like playing here it's weird to cheer for more mods quitting instead of for making it a more pleasant experience to mod.

(Anonymous) 2023-03-02 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
i can't do anything to make it more pleasant to mod? i don't complain about mods on anon comms and am polite when i interact with them. i can't control anyone else.

having moderated myself in the past i can say on the whole we are a worthless group of people. there's just too many assholes. and every time someone decides not to moderate i'm happy they can avoid that. i've seen it wreck too many people to want more people to moderate.

this is why i was hoping we wouldn't get a new post

1+ we've been bitching about the same things for the past 3 wg posts now. arguments about invite vs private and what's the difference between them, mods not getting treated fairly, why are all the games going invite/private and whose fault it is, and dwrp is dying!!!! it's getting so old.

i think until we get something new to talk about or something significant happens, we shouldn't get a new post.

Re: MAJORITY RULE

(Anonymous) 2023-03-02 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
is the attitude necessary?

whatever the reason behind the game's failure, the mods probably feel disheartened enough about it already. whether it did or didn't resonate with us, it's clear they put effort into their game, and it must already sting that the application round didn't succeed.

you're just hitting people when they're likely down, at this point.

+1 imo the reaction of anons to mild criticism was more off-putting than anything, and was why that thread spiralled into something distasteful

people were asking why no one apped, so i gave my own personal reasons as to why i hadn't apped because i assumed that whoever was asking was genuinely curious about why people weren't apping and thought that it might be useful if the mods happened to see the thread.

i don't think the game is unfixable but as it was there were several things that put me off from giving it a try.

Honest question because I’m curious - why do we keep coming back to wankgate? I have been out of rp for a long while and recently checked in to tag casually and am honestly surprised to see it’s still active, albeit slower. In my case, I definitely still visit wankgate to keep up-to-date with the community out of curiosity but kinda hate myself for bothering to. Are we still coming back here ten years later? I hope not.
