How does everyone feel about rpers not putting their handles in their rp journals when posting around bakerstreet? I know we are all just here for rp, but what if you’re trying to avoid your dnis or other people who have you as a dni?

A journal being completely empty is a bit different than someone just leaving their name out of their permissions/info/contact pages, I think.

i don't put personal information on my character profiles. i might put a general muselist up or remember to link it, but outside of that, i don't pay attention to that kind of thing. i go to journals to see if they have permissions that i don't want to overstep. i'm not looking for personal information. i get that if we click as a psl and i wind up getting a handle from them maybe if we pm for a bit.

bakerstreet is the most casual of rp. i'm not putting myself on dwrp tinder just to get someone to tag me. i'm effectively already doing that by putting my character on a top level or tagging out. asking me to put myself out there is blurring the ic/ooc line. if you're comfortable doing it, fine. but i don't want to be involved with everyone i play with. i just want to play.

i don't automatically assume someone named amanda is That Amanda who i specifically have beef with because there's hundreds of amandas in the world. ditto jen or john. people can also change their handles for non-wanky reasons.

i changed my socials a few years back because i was tired of my old usernames, but that means if i linked to my new plurk people would think that i'm a new person, not the old person they don't want to interact with.

i don't overthink it. ooc contact only means so much when there's tons of stories about people changing their identity for w/e reason, and if it's THAT important you never interact with this one person (even just to go "oh shit i tagged them on tfln by accident whoops") then an open rp venue like bakerstreet's not a good choice for you.

Honestly for bakerstreet it can't be helped. Same for fortanon. Like others have said before these are like the convenience store food of rping: easy, quick, with little or no effort to prepare.

The best you can do is get dwtools and block 'em when you come across them and they might as well do the same because trying to remember every character they have will be an outright pain. Don't sweat over it so much. If they're mad, they're mad.

i've been using dwtools to blacklist all of the accounts of one specific muse dumper that's been going off lately and i can tell you they put anywhere between like 7 and 15 journals per post (out of the 30+ i have blacklisted so far) and that's just tracking one person.

Has anyone ever been harassed by anons in their journals or sock accounts? How did you deal with it?

keep records of the harassment. take screenshots clearly showing the date and time, every time they contact you

block the accounts if you can (but make sure to screenshot/record anything they've sent first in case they delete the comments)

report them to dreamwidth as harassment is a violation of the terms of service: https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=80

dreamwidth may not be able to help but they may be able to see if it's all one person

turn off anon commenting and messaging on your journals

do not respond at all to any of the harassment

repeat the above steps until they get bored and move on

This is a dumb question but I was trying to explain to my friend about livejournal rp and when the term "ecats" came up, I completely blanked on what the acronym stood for. I tried googling it and couldn't find any posts that explained the term even though I could have sworn that googling "ecats livejournal" or "ecats dreamwidth" did used to turn up posts explaining what it meant.

I think the E stood for "econtra" and the C stood for "campfuckyoudie"? I would appreciate it if someone could tell me the rest. :(

ij is so weird because they seem to be around the same average age as us but have embraced a lot of purity culture stuff that i don't expect to see in most "legacy" fan spaces

like they have an entire comm dedicated to "dark roleplays" but almost every game advertised there has some rule about villains and other "problematic" characters being either disallowed altogether or heavily scrutinized. a few had this weird word-for-word copypasted rule condescendingly explaining that a redemption arc doesn't count if it happened at the end of the character's story. it's fair to be annoyed by that but why wag your finger at some random player who didn't write the canon?

firefox shows which subdomains your saved logins are associated with if you're logging into a different subdomain, so if you log in on bakerstreet and save the login and then later you go to the login box on rpanons it'll show you the saved login is from bakerstreet.dreamwidth.org

i just discovered the saved domain for one of my accounts is gsai's musebox for some reason

Denise puts up a post that says all wg posts will be de-anoned in a week. By "de-anoned," she means that she has a tool that looks at the IP on any post, finds the dreamwidth account last associated with that IP, and assigns the wg post to that dw account. Don't think about this too hard, just assume it's possible and effective and somehow works around VPNs.

She says she won't de-anon the posts if, before the week is up, the poster of a particular comment comes forward and publicly admits who they are. The comment is yours. It is the worst, meanest, most incendiary/cruel/backstabbing thing you have ever written on here.
