ij refugee here. part of it was purity culture about villains being Problematic and so if you wanted to play one you were a Bad Person. i ran into that. there was also the issue that most ij games don't have any kind of resurrection mechanic, so if a character dies, they stay dead and are unplayable. lots of players of canon heroes whining about how it wouldn't be ic for them to let the villain live so villains shouldn't be allowed.

worst extreme of this i saw that wasn't an outright ban was one where if you wanted to play a vampire from any canon you had to contact everyone who played any kind of hunter/slayer type character from any other canon and justify to them why their character shouldn't kill your vampire. had to get everyone's approval before you could put in an app.

i left because people couldn’t stop bringing their virtue signaling into their gaming. it was so stupid and tiresome.

everything about this is extremely eyeroll-inducing (congrats on your escape, anon), but extra shout-out to the powergaming implicit in the assumption that superheroes and monster hunters would obviously be able to straight-up kill these characters literally whenever.
