there is nothing about a meme positing short, snappy, pre-written dialogue prompts that implies oocdom. you are supposed to choose tflns that suit your character (or better yet, to customize or write them). it's not that an ooc cesspool is 'just the kind of place' tfln is, it's that you're interacting with players who like to be self-indulgent with their rp now and then, and that's their venue of choice.

i'll spoil something for you: 95% of characters on the sexting meme wouldn't sext, and people with a mind to play it icly still manage. hell, many characters either wouldn't know how to text or wouldn't practise it generally as a habit, and yet players still do it icly. a meme isn't 'by and large' anything, rpers make or break it.

Oh, I don't play on TFLN. Tags tend to go quiet on Friday as many people do so I just read threads there for fun.

As someone who reads pretty a good portion of TFLN out of boredom on Friday nights I can say with some authority that IC isn't what most people there are going for.

Can it be done ICly? Sure! I see occasional IC threads. Is it more often OOC? Absolutely!

I don't mind that people are self indulgent as I've stated repeatedly. But I do think this level of offended response to pointing out how much of it is OOC is telling of what you might be doing on Fridays. To that end, I'll say you shouldn't be ashamed of playing OOC texting shit. But don't claim it's IC if it's not, and be willing to admit a lot of people are just having fun and ignoring canon.

that player is always on rpa being super aggro, so idk if it has to do with tfln in particular. they have a distinctive writing style and are incredibly hostile and condescending in all of their comments.

i'm 99% sure i know who it is, but i don't want to say in case it'd be throwing an innocent person to the wolves. if you've interacted with any tavs i don't think it's hard to figure out, though.

yeah i have a strong hunch too, but i've been accused of being people i'm not on anon, and i've seen people leave comments i could have written. so no reason to ruin some rando's day by guessing when there's every chance it's someone who only acts up on anon or who is lying and actually plays a wol and is just throwing tavs under the bus.

bro, moving on from the high unlikelihood that you know all canons represented on tfln to judge accurately and 'with some authority' how ic/ooc most people are - the point you keep missing and that we keep making is that there is nothing inherent in the meme itself that makes people ic/ooc. if your canon or choice is mostly patroned be people who use the meme oocly, sure, that's one thing.

da: tbh i've tried explicitly saying that on my top level too, along with several varieties of 'no smut' and 'no shipping' on tfln or regular memes. i've still gotten some ship pushers 'tee hee just trying!'

i just ignore them, personally, good way for people to tell on themselves that they've got very limited reading skills. but maybe the anon's canon is thirsty enough that it's more than a rare encounter? no idea.

i have gotten this as well. i also ignore them. the rpanons anon who was talking about it said they drop the threads it happens in but people kept telling them it was their fault they got those tags so i am not shocked it spiraled

some people get really defensive of memes on bakerstreet especially the popular ones. i once mentioned in a disco group that tfln was a low effort way to unwind since it was fast and not serious and a friend of mine got incredibly offended by it. idk maybe some people are putting in a ton of effort for it but 98% of the people i know treat it as a time waster that at best may introduce you to some new people and at worst will give you some awkward threads

yeah, there was a degree of 'it's your fault if you're not taking a hundred precautionary and/or retaliatory steps' attitude from some anons in that thread, probably because they'd pre-decided that anon was to blame, no matter what.

most of us just drop the threads we're not randomly feeling, let alone the ones that pointedly go against our prefs, come on. let's not pretend we all go out of our way to have a stern talking to with players, flag to mods and spread the good word when someone hasn't done more than minorly inconvenience us with a tag notif we can delete on a forgettable meme.

like i said to above anon i assume half the people buttmad about it are sending that kind of tag and do not like seeing people say they do not like it? just like i assume any anon who gets real uptight about any rp woes thread issue feels they could be the person being complained about.

and yeah if i do not feel a thread i just drop it. same with weird shit tags that ignore comment stated prefs. at most i might bring it up anon as a minor anecdote and then watch the world burn as people take offense, i guess? going off of rpanons right now
