I don't think I've seen these around on bakerstreet, are they genshin ocs or what

The two I've seen are honkai based.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-03 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
honkai OCs actually make sense since the game setting works for it, as the player character is literally traveling the galaxy and visiting new planets. just have someone show up from some planet they made up.

plenty of fan OCs "make sense" for their setting. that doesn't mean we want to play with them

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-03 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
oh i agree, im one of them. honkai at least feels the least shoe horned in.

tbh you could probably set a game in the star rail universe. instead of magically appearing in some contrived set up, just have aliens are real and they end up taking a spaceship to some planet. you’ve got gods, some sort of magic system already, and a bunch of “events” where you can go on planetary excursions and so on.

the problem with that is aeons are not based in morality. the same goes for paths. they're conceptual alignments.

Re: da

how populated a given canon's setting is for fandom oc fabrication is like the least pressing issue ppl have with fandom ocs and you know this

the notable case ive seen running around bakerstreet lately isn't even just some rando from a new planet, oh no, she's also "a porter on the Express, you know, the one that all the main Express-riding characters should totally know" and also "the Emanator of an Aeon the player made up wholesale who's super powerful but that's a secret and she has ~angst~ about it" and "once saved the train from a massive body of water with some of those super powers it was really cool whoa" and

i mean you know it just goes on

i know who you are talking about anon LMAO why do i feel like they complained in rp anon.. 🤔

Re: da

lmfao considering all the details they just dropped in their newest response in the rpa thread i'd bet actual money it's this person

good for whoever it was that messaged them they weren't interested tbh, looks like they ended up dodging an entitled bullet

wondering now if the new "tips on playing canon characters" thread is the same person tbh, it sounds so GREETINGS FELLOW CANON ROLEPLAYERS

Re: da

on one hand the secondhand embarrassment is killing me

on the other hand you gotta kinda admire the weird tenacity

this would be so much less awkward if they'd just taken the L and asked about canon rp in their initial thread tho

...actually i think a lot of their problems could be avoided by getting better at taking the L of rp rejection in general and learning how to move on

Was it a water planet or was there suddenly a lake in space

One is funnier than the other

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-03 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
literally a big blob of water in space

yeah idk either

the bio's just a very funny read tbh, there's so much weirdly unnecessarily dramatic stuff pulled out of nowhere for the pure sake of making the character So Special And Unique, it makes her seem like an import from a completely different story with fancy star rail serial numbers forcibly stamped on top

and it's a shame bc there's so much to work with in the existing canon to create some funky space citizen that might be actually interesting to thread with. give me a robot intellitron oc with some interesting stuff going on with their robo-ness. or a bounty hunter that's aware of the bigger canon criminals in the game and wants in on the warrant cash. or maybe some poor bastard working for the IPC who's heard of all the big events in the main story only secondhand but gets comically sucked into shenans way over his paygrade or smth (well i guess that's just velite actually lmao)

anyway imo 'powerful secret Emanator girl of a made up Aeon who works on the MC's special train' is one of the most boring oc routes they could have taken in this verse but here we are smh

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
yeah when i read it i thought it just sounded... incredibly mary sue-esque, which is a phase i thought we'd grown out of after we were 15 but i guess not all of us

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-05 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, the star rail universe is HUGE! There's lots of room for Fandom OCs. Just, you know, don't make them besties with the main cast.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
why do they need this random oc to save the train from a massive body of water when dan heng is right there and can do it his damn self

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
and he doesn't even need to be an emanator to do it smh......

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
it's like asking superman to save bikini bottom when aquaman is right there!!!

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-05 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
because they likely want a not like other girls bonding moment with the resident waterbender on the express, don’t you know how self-inserts work. they do it to self-ship with the cock they want, so they give them similar traits. it’s bad YA fiction 101.

march 7th is the same spunky-sweet character type but she isn’t super op or openly dramatic about her trauma so the player wouldn't get nearly enough h/c or powergurl moments for playing her.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-05 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
i think they already have a stelle account specifically for riding dan heng's dick lol

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-03 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
actually disagree, but for a different reason: ocs most make sense in highly-developed settings with almost no characters. still wouldn't play with one myself, but i'd understand if someone took a look at a great setting with 1-2 developed characters and said "i want to do something else with this."

but in a gacha game with 500 characters, if somebody can't find a single one they vibe with more than their oc, imo that's at least a yellow flag

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-04 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
esp since large parts of what their fandom oc is ... already exist as a canon character you can play

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-05 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
But they don't want to play Acheron, they want to play their vanity self-insert with the spunky-sweet personality and trauma tm

what's that? that character also already exists? sorry they can't hear you over their glorious creation's rosy farts

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-05 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
tbf most gacha games are waifu bait so while they may have a ton of characters they all tend to confirm to certain age ranges and appearances. i can understand wanting to make a fandom oc of a older character like a actual grandma instead of 1000 year old loli.

but of course that’s not happening, people just want their super special teenage oc lmao
