as someone who struggles with focus and concentration, i can't wait for the end of this trend of making tdms and game events an entire novel's worth of text and potential prompts

nobody needs 17 different prompts + opt out options and setting notes. this is taking player hand holding to extremes

they're all good ideas but they would be better saved for later. trickle them out to us on future tdms! no need to blow the first load (heh) in the first round

am i recalling correctly that this is the game with the rule that malleable protags are allowed if and only if they have a reasonably well-defined canon personality? if so, i was a little surprised at WoLs getting the stamp of approval, since at least based on the HUGELY varied way people give theirs personalities in rp they've always seemed like textbook "canon personality is not defined" protags.

(from my limited experience playing ffxiv, there is some like… awkward/stoic silent protagonist stuff going? but i have never seen this treated as a consistent canon personality by rpers in practice.)

lots of games are doing this, and i hate it

i'm not going to point at any specific game because i think most games in the past two years or so have shifted to five big prompts with three or four little prompts within the big prompt, so.... between 15 and 20 options? that's ridiculous

just give me three events and let me decide what i want to do at each

extra thumbs down for the games that offer 'helpful hints' for players who have writers block and don't know what to do by adding in a seperate block of additional options. i know they're trying to be helpful, but it's excessively pandering.

seriously, if you can't look at an overall event at a dinner party and decide on ANYTHING for your character do to, maybe this a creative hobby isn't for you

To play devil’s advocate it’s probably because players are so fast to whine that there’s nothing to do.

That said, when I go cross eyed at rows of links, blurbs, emojis, etc it’s gone too far

i’m sure that’s what it is too, and i repeat: if you can’t find something to do at an event, kick rocks.

i doubt mods really like the pressure of having to write 20 prompts in order to cater to players who still will find something wrong with their tdm or monthly event, so i’m definitely not blaming them

former mod here who used to do that, and that was part of the reason. and yet i burned out after so long because i would write a plethora of options and there would still be those few people who whine that there's "nothing for their characters to do"

i would love more brevity in prompts but i feel like players these days rely on mods too much as a crutch

overall, i prefer having multiple options for each prompt but think the walls of text can be trimmed down a little. still, i'd rather have more to work with than less even if it takes me a little longer to read through it all since i have focusing issues, too.

too many games before this had bland events that just didn't offer enough variety to springboard more than two or three engaging threads. i used to hate top leveling on events because i'd wind up doing more or less the same thread with very slight differences six or seven times. tagging out on events wasn't much better because it was the same three or four thread premises repeated for infinity without much variation.
