which is why wg needs to stop defending this. because musedumping and meme dumping does affect the quality of the comm and who goes actually posts there.

musedumping has hurt literally no one. all it does is add a comment count to a meme you weren't going to tag in anyway. minus their characters doesn't add involvement. and they aren't taking up your spots. stfu. gloss over it like literally every other adult in this space and stop thinking you have a right to gatekeep an open space. we all know they won't tag out. we all know they won't tag back. they know it too. you have depleted the fucks to give about this until we're in a deficit now.

it is annoying and clogs up memes and if a page is full of one person's musedumps then yes, they're being rude. stop dumping all these characters if you're not going to tag out or even follow the rules of a meme.

there is literally almost no involvement in memes nowadays, so the idea of them clogging anything up is ridiculous. to address the other 20+ musedumper, that doesn't happen anymore. it used to, and even back then with 3+ pages (so 75+ muses) of characters being dumped, it doesn't matter. it does not take away anything. meme posters can go in and delete comments that break meme rules (especially if they put a 'comments that don't follow rules will be deleted' notice on the meme)

this whole newcomer thing is crap because they'll either play or they won't. they'll tag and find out that they won't get tags back from both musedumpers and regular singular posters alike. it's not all on the musedumpers that play has faded away. stop living in 2018.

because most of the memes are spam that's because musedumped by the same 2-3 people who do not tag back with their multiple accounts. that's why.

anyway the point is these memes should actually have 0 posts. they aren't getting used because no one wants them, not even the people posting on them. the memes that we want (rain, insomnia, tfln etc) ARE getting a lot of regular use.

dude, i go to most of the memes and the pages after pages i see are not spam. there's a chunk of someone that has about 7-10 character, and the rest is all the same double handful of the same players posting their same 1-3 characters that they all tag insularly with. meme activity has gone down because everyone's played out what they want to play, people have gotten comfortable with one or two characters, and no one wants to play with each other anymore because it's boring. they've played all the lines between bucky and steve or cloud and noctis. the musedumpers aren't posting the screeds they used to, and they aren't the only ones ignoring tag ins. most of them don't even get tags ins anymore because we all know they're not there to rp.

when you open 5 memes in a row with 33 comments and it's all the same 33 faces posted time after time (all from different players using one or two characters), your drive to play goes down because why bother? you've played that.

there's definitely an element of this, and i'm definitely among those guilty of propagating it. i've been playing the same character for the past year, and i was looking through a few memes just today and it's either castmates or crosscanon characters i've already played out everything i want to do with. some of them are genuinely excellent, and i'm sure it looks bizarre when we're castmates and top leveling on the same meme without tapping each other - but after a certain point you run out of things you're burning to thread together. there's definitely a segment of characters i haven't 'tried out,' and that's where i'll have to turn, but i have to face up that memes will give me diminishing returns in terms of thread partner variety until i'm willing to shake up my character roster a bit.

that's for me as well. i scroll past characters i've done months long psls/verses with on memes with and we've played out a lot of stuff, but i'm feeling burnt out on that particular angle, or i'm not up for continuing on that line, or i'm not sure if they want to restart entirely. either way, it's not 'i hate you and don't want to play with you', it's 'i enjoyed what we have/had, but i'm not feeling that right now, maybe later'. i can easily see how it seems like snubbing when the same stuff happens meme after meme, but that's just a numbers issue. if i don't feel like playing with bob today, then that's ten memes i'm not playing in with them. along with the eight from yesterday, and the five from the day before, and the nine from the day before that. i might need/want a break for a month or a few weeks, and in memeland, that adds up to page after page after page of memes that no one's tagging.

it's why i take breaks from bakerstreet, tbh. i'll go mia for a month or two so i don't feel like i'm seeing the same faces and not tagging day after day. give me a month and i'll come back with a new idea.

hi-5 i'm with you on taking breaks away from bakerstreet to 'reset.' i will say, this is almost the one unintended downside of the proliferation of info posts, because i'm now more likely to go for the same type of character who is a natural fit for mine, rather than trying people out blindly and letting the interaction surprise me. i find that ultimately when i end up in a bakerstreet rut like this, i need to either take 5 away from memes, or revisit some older characters (or steer toward new ones).

but yeah, back to your point: musedumpers are buzzkills for sure, but i don't think they're the core issue behind the bakerstreet stagnation.

they're just obvious targets. same with meme spammers. people can still play in all the memes they want. no one's stopping them. they just don't want to realize that with dwindling players, they're left with characters/players they don't really want to play with and they don't want to sound like entitled whiny brats by admitting that what they really want is a bunch of characters that fit their type and preferences, fuck everyone else. musedumpers don't take up the spots of the characters they want. meme spammers don't remove memes from everyone. people are just getting older and more tired of putting out effort and feeling like they don't get the rewards they feel they deserve.

that's what psls are for. memes are fishing spots. a lot of times, you don't always get nibbles or your bait isn't working. when you do get a nibble, most people i know nowadays are taking them to private museboxes/journals to play in peace there without being judged for whatever they play. memes are convenient places to play, but they aren't the only places, and i think a lot of people are just content with their steady psls in private and that's where a lot of people are now. they have their toys and they don't want to keep looking for new ones. it feels like some people are putting too much weight and expectation on meme play as their sole form of entertainment and getting mad about it not paying out.

lower your standards, anon. if you're expecting perfection and that just right spot kind of rp, no wonder you're in a dry spell. lower your bar and hit some people that are esl or have not so great grammar. they're eager puppies for rp. or just be willing to have a lot of boomeranging for one day for one thread, and recognize that person will drop them the next day and be willing to start up a new thread the next day.

i guarantee you're never going to get exactly what you want from rp. there's not enough of a supply around here to be as picky as you could be five years ago. if you're still maintaining that standard of expectation, you're going to keep being disappointed. i come here to play. do i get great play all the time? hell no. i'm sure i've given some shit tags too just to get the scene moving as well. but i always have tags in my inbox and i can always tag someone and expect a reply back. this is definitely a you problem in that you're deciding who to tag and who not to.

nayrt but one of the best things i’ve ever done for my rp is lowering my bar, especially since i dont play in games anymore. and honestly, i’ve had the most fun in rp in years because while my partners may not have perfect spelling or the grammar and syntax is a little janky, they’ve been reliable tag partners that match my energy. not to mention i realize that some of them are esl and it’s honestly impressive that they’re roleplaying in another language. the only thing i’m able to write in another language is yo quiero taco bell.
