i've loved my fair share of basic bitch "these two guys are everywhere" m/m ships, but something about jayce just gets on my fucking nerves and i have no idea why. on paper he's the kind of character i'd adore, but in practice he's just too annoying for me to take the yaoi bait

he has deep personal investment in the show (obviously) but no media training. it's all deleted now but I remember like 12 hours after the finale aired he was fighting with caitvi shippers on twitter and crashing out on reddit. he seems to take some issue with interpretations of the show/characters that don't align with his own word of god. which, like. idk man it's out there and what people do with it is out of your hands. go on vacation.

i don't know man maybe some people believe men should be encouraged to express emotions other than violent anger without being accused of some ulterior romantic feelings attached to them.

but i am still salty that the canon queer ship we did get was overshadowed by the yaoihounds who go out of their way to ignore the women because vaginas are gross and icky i guess.

i'm sad jayce and viktor have been reduced to seme/uke stereotypes that don't even resemble their canon selves around here. viktor especially has been done so dirty. he's rare canon asexual rep like tma jon sims but when you look at the hoard of them posting on memes like tfln, every last one is a hypersexual horndog drunk frat boy. i feel like i watched a completely different show than these arcane players

some of my friends jumped on the viktor hype train and are playing exactly that version of him devoid of any canon characterization and i cringe every time i see their threads.

the jayces and viktors flooding every game are just as bad. how they even get accepted is beyond me if their apps accurately reflect how they play the characters.

I feel this is a preview of what's to come once the Murderbot show is out, because a bland white guy was cast as MB and you know how DWRP goes nuts for those. Mind you the character has no genitals and has negative interest in sex, but that's not going to stop anyone from playing completely OOC sex crazed constructs.

anon I know this is a complicated subject but to say that viktor is "rare canon asexual rep" when the only real mention of it is christian linke in a stray interview* saying "idk maybe he's asexual" in direct response to the fandom shipping him with jayce is disingenuous. No comment on ooc tfln bullshit but I just want to note that the rep in question is from one writer on the team who has a track record of saying stupid shit and also exhibiting discomfort with the idea that some people think Viktor might be gay. I'm not surprised people aren't taking it seriously.

(*in the same interview he conflates asexuality and aromanticism, and also doesn't seem to understand that you can be asexual and gay, so people can and will ship him with jayce regardless. I also feel some typea way about the asexual rep being a workaholic disabled scientist character who eventually ends up a genital-less emotionless robot guy who tries to lobotomize the world. like...come on)

i have seen anons here genuinely saying there was no sudden writing drop quality in s2 and had to wonder which show they were watching

yeah, the writing team getting slashed and the remaining folks having to pick up the pieces is a factor, but there's a reason s1 won awards and s2 caught a lot of criticism

+1, I had fun with season 2 but it really was a lot of riot games saying "do this so we can sell a skin" and three dumb bitches in the writers room telling each other "exactlyyyyy"

it was obvious almost from the get-go, too

i think i stopped watching around ep 3 or 4 and even then i could tell there'd be a lot of people with poor taste and limited awareness of better stuff to watch/play/etc who'd devour the entire thing for an infuriatingly bland m/m ship

i'm amazed anyone can roleplay from this series because s2 2 did so much retconning from s1 (the history between vander and silco especially).

not only season 2 contradicted S1 a lot, s2 also contradicted its own s2 episodes. a lot of the story doesn't make sense, and a lot of plot points get dropped mid-way and never gets addressed again.

Nothing was retconned between Silco and Vander. They expanded upon what they hinted at in S1. They were always close before they were enemies, and it was a central factor in why the betrayal was such a big deal to him.

always going to be mad about the vander whitewashing. we could've had some moral grayness with him instead of perfect sad dead dad, but instead we got an "oops sorry lost me 'ead. anyway" letter so vi and jinx could have an excuse to completely forget their differences and move the plot along. and if their parents were actively fighting in the big battle why would he tweak out so hard at silco for them dying anyway? why not show some sort of agreement that silco went back on or him causing their deaths to justify the murder attempt?

between that, jinx going from mentally unstable to quirky sadgirl, the hexcore's sentience never getting mentioned again, and ekko having any plot relevance outside of a last minute macguffin taken from him and given to jinx s2 was a really pretty clusterfuck
