what would have been effective?

you cant say "you played yourself" unless you have an alternative. theres nothing to play. theres just people trying their best to make the world less shitty. do you have a way to make that happen or are you just doing "lie down and take it" with extra steps.

its a dumb question because you are just a sound engineer and not someone in charge of policy anywhere but i have to impress upon you that your powerlessness is not everyone's powerlessness.

btw the real power of the boycott is in the permanent diminishment of the HP brand, which is happening whether you like it or not. not in the february-only sales receipts.

how was the hp brand permanently diminished

for the same reason most people have not heard of the kpop band at the top of the billboard hot 100. there were lots of initial sales, few long term players. it did not make the brand relevant to a new audience, it did not make future fans. so you only have the old ones, winnowing away as HP becomes more pointless and toxic as well as irrelevant.

thats what boycotts can do. its not about the short term, and everyone, including you, trying to make it about the short term is a jackoff.

you're acting like the HP brand is riding high and yet somehow the movie they released a year ago probably just killed their whole movie universe

if people were actually invested in fucking over the woke the way that you claim, that movie wouldn't have tanked. have you considered its more likely that people are morally lazy on both the woke and anti-woke sides

if that was actually true, the Fantastic Beasts movies wouldn't have tanked

the anti-woke brigade is not as powerful as you desperately want to pretend it is, and the HP brand is not the juggernaut it was in the early 2000s

Re: another da

(Anonymous) 2023-05-01 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
there's been studies done on this actually, conservatives tend to say they'll boycott (or buycott) something and then not in fact do it

what helped the game - which i agree was destined to do well - was the fact that it was self-insert nostalgia aimed at people who grew up with the series, and a triple-a game released during a very long, dry like your mom's vagina drought of triple-a games, when people were aware there wouldn't be anything new or good to play for a while

discovered that a castmate (who i thought was a friend) had made a new plurk, so i sent them a friend request. they added me then went and immediately made a new new plurk and i'm the only person they didn't friend add to the new one

seems like a lot of effort when they could have just said no to my initial friend request but okay

Re: COME SAIL AWAY

(Anonymous) 2023-05-01 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
this exactly

solstice is difficult to give concrete deets on because it's usually a bunch of smaller instances adding up rather than one big thing (and they whiteknight themselves and attempt to get namedrop threads frozen), but for a recent example just look at how they're acting about this event.

for context, this was a very experimental event, not all of it worked and i'm not saying there isn't valid criticism, but solstice in particular:

1. signed up for an event where it was known in advance that not every character was going to get a turn.
2. signed up for an event where it was known that RNG would determine each character's outcome and you could instantly die.

based on luck of the RNG, two of their characters got a turn. some players didn't get any turns (as the event didn't require as many characters as initially thought) and were gracious about it. their first character had a pretty normal run where they passed one roll and failed the second (50/50 chance, so that's expected). their second character failed the first roll.

solstice, who up until now has been one of this game's biggest defenders, changed their attitude real fast. now they're being passive-aggressive at the mod and talking shit about the game and the event on plurk, based entirely on how upset they are that their second character (when again, some players didn't even get one) died too fast. given how often they insult the mods of their previous games, i wouldn't be surprised if they completely jump ship to their new game and start acting like sail was the worst game ever, and when the private game mod inevitably ends up disappointing them they'll do the same.

regardless of what anyone thinks of trek, this is how solstice treats everybody. they're super sweet until they're bored of you or you piss them off somehow, then they get mean.

I love that anon above has like actual info proving their point and this anon is still so hung up on their daydreams of getting railed by Draco Malfoy that they think they're still making some kind of case here.

Snape will never love you, anon. Your ancestors would cry of shame if they knew you cared this much about defending a corporate IP you first encountered at age 8.
