same. i'll go through periods of just not checking bs at all because it's the same shit every time, and then when i go back because i want to do random scenario or whatever and i'm scrolling through i'm surprised pikachu because it hasn't changed

clearly some people are still interested, but i don't think anyone can deny that most memes these days are way deader than they used to be, with the exceptions of stalwarts like tfln, random scenario, etc.

yeah, i would love to tag out and I'm a big proponent of doing so. however, when the options are blond/brunette normal person/random mythological oc, live action guy looking for 30+ only characters which cuts out a huge chunk of character choices for me, anime character around the right age for my character that's m/m only, genshin only open to castmates, canon with no information easily found... you get the idea. this isn't a dig on those types of players. at least they're posting. i just wish i saw more people in memes that weren't tfln or random scenario. possibly this could be mitigated if there were fewer memes, especially niche memes, altogether. i haven't seen a weather related meme for a couple of weeks, for example. the unusual words meme is another one that i haven't seen in a while. even some smut memes have wider appeal than the ones posted that slot each character into a pre-determined role.

Just post to enablemeplz instead of filling up the comm with memes that only work for a narrow subset of characters paired off in super specific ways

same, it drives me nuts. so much of memes now are fishing for specific characters or character dynamics and it reflects in who people post to them, as well as what memes are posted. that's the real issue, not whatever this gen season smut season thing above is.

I don’t understand how indicating preference/boundaries in a permissions post wouldn’t solve this issue. Before I tag someone I typically take a peek at their permissions, especially if I’m looking to gear the thread towards something shippy. If someone doesn’t have permissions up, you can always check in which is normal and doesn’t take too much time anyway. I think having two communities to check would be more cumbersome than just sticking with the status quo etiquette.

i really do not understand why some ppl put OTA when they tag into memes but when i check their permissions in their account they clearly have an "m/m pref" like ??? can y'all please stop doing that? when you put ota (esp on shipping threads) that implies you are OPEN to ALL characters or genders. Or am I wrong?? IDK just feels misleading. it's especially worse when the account doesn't have anything on their account that tells me what they are okay with.

my dude, this is the part about info posts you're not going to like: people forget to update them. sometimes, they change their mind and characters they wanted to play exclusively m/m now appeal to them for m/f prospects too. and they don't recall to update the info post.

other times, they're just feeling like making an exception or trying out a different pairing type for this character they've only ever played as m/m.

just take the latest preference expressed (the one in the meme) as the current one.

same. one of my characters has a popular fanon ship that i don't like so i specifically have it listed as a "notp" in that character's permissions post. that way other people don't have to waste time asking or guessing whether i want to play that ship or not.

that's changed then because i've definitely seen toplevels with eg "closed to canonmates" or "closed to x"

I’d argue that a m/m pref doesn’t mean they’re not open to other things…? It’s just a preference. Kinda like being bi and leaning towards liking women more, but for the right guy you’ll also be open to them?
