this might sound backwards but wg is kind of a bad place to do that, bc it's hard to tell here who's sameanoning, how many people actually go here vs rpa (vs neither), and how many don't rp here anymore and just come here to try and start shit without actually knowing what's going on, which plenty of people have acknowledged over the years

wg is only a good barometer when something comes up over and over and over again with little disagreement for many posts - for example, gsai, and by association the subject of people who evade dnis

I've been reluctant to try DWRP because of the anon and HMD stuff. I appreciate feedback on my writing, but my experience on other platforms has usually been that that's not what people use those features for.

Had a (trans) friend get harassed for playing a trans OC because some cis people thought the character needed to be more depressed about being trans. Another friend who got shit because a mod thought it wasn't realistic for a black person to be a doctor. And a third who got harassed off of tumblr for playing MCU Zemo, because a different version of that character was a fictional Nazi in an alternate universe. So I'm just. Yeah.

I'm interested in writing with new people, but don't want to end up in like a crazy anon hate panopticon.

most dwrpers don't come here and don't use hmds. this is a bad place to try and get a feel for the hobby. it's like the fringe "terminally online" cesspool of twitter - most users are actually completely fine, and you only fine the really insane shit if you go into bad hashtags or load all the hidden responses. spending time here without an awareness that it's just a the same ten miserable people shitposting because they're bored will rot your brain and give you anxiety in a hobby that can easily be 100% stress free.

fwiw as someone else has mentioned, rpanons isn't actually much better. a lot of people who use rpa don't go to wg, they're just there to look for icon advertisements and whatever, but everyone who goes to wg goes to rpa.

I think you won't have to worry about those specific things in DWRP. Trans interpretations of characters who are not explicitly trans in canon do get some grumbling (unless it's a game that allows AUs and you specifically say it's an AU), but a trans OC wouldn't be a problem. The other two definitely wouldn't be an issue here either, anyone who tried to complain about a black doctor or 'but this character is a nazi in another timeline' would be laughed at and told to shut up.

Not all games require an HMD, and you definitely don't need to have one if you're just playing in museboxes or memes. The anon stuff is going to happen, but you can look away from rpanons and wankgate if you want to. There's settings in the journals to turn off anon commenting on your personal journal if you want. And tbh unless you do something REALLY stupid or crazy (you can look at past WG posts to see examples) then you'll probably go undetected by anons anyway. It's hard to tell exactly how many people we have in DWRP, but it's at least a couple thousand (if not more). Given that the same 50 or so names are the ones that keep getting thrown around, that means that 99% of players fly under the radar of wankgate.

honestly i dont think dw would mind too much about a trans headcanon that was very clearly a headcanon and not stating, with absolute and total certainty, that the character is canonically trans and if you disagree you're a bigot. i call those saitama has no nipples moments.

i think the preference in dwrp is generally for trans headcanons to be explicitly stated as AUs, unless there's some basis in canon (for example, a crossdressing or nb character i guess)

ime we don't mind in memes and psls but if you do a trans headcanon in game for a character that isn't explicitly trans or who is explicitly cis we get annoyed about it. in games we tend to be stricter about things being canon accurate.

Given that the same 50 or so names are the ones that keep getting thrown around, that means that 99% of players fly under the radar of wankgate.
