for me, as long as they aren't godmodding/making assumptions about my character and aren't playing a teen girl or woman, I don't mind giving them a shot. they're never phenomenal players, but I'm not going to pretend that I'm above playing neckbeard kinks, and I keep ooc contact to a minimum with most people. cis men playing women or girls is an immediate no for me too. they tend to be the skeeviest with the worst characterization. if i know the character they're messing up, it's even worse. for example, most m/f only clouds played by cis men are unbearable to me.

Yeah characterization of women tends to be my problem with them, and or blurring ic and ooc boundaries to the tune of "I want to play this male character fucking anime girls I the player want to have sex with." More often than not you get 2D caricatures of women with stereotypical expressions of femininity because they struggle to empathize with us or see us as a whole other species. I'm into rping out stuff from history and it's so hard to find cishet male players who get into the emotional and psychological aspects of war and not just "My Character does X then Y then Z and fires his X specific gun, here are all the specs of his weapons."

fwiw I've encountered plenty of women who do the former with female characters too, though it's mostly men that are like this and it's unfortunately become a red flag for me over time. trying to get f/f was hell for a time between cis het men and thirsty women before I got regular rp partners. playing an attractive man open to m/f opens you up to seeing bad wish fulfillment characterization as well

the latter dick waving power level discussion I've only ever seen with men though, you're right

i don't mind fulfilling wishes at all if the writing's decent tbh. project on the princess all you want, i just want to see some consistent characterization, a good sense of humor, and the ability to produce a thread more descriptive than tab A in slot B

big agree. at the end of the day we're all here for wish fulfillment on some level, after all. my beef comes from feeling like I'm threading off a blow up doll, where characterization is thrown out altogether.

I've felt that way before too, nonnie. it helps if you play a very dominant woman but the struggle is real
