i've been reading all of this like... on one hand, i have always thought "ota" meant all genders, and i've been in dwrp for decades at this point. i can see how it now has different interpretations, but from the start, ota was shorthand for when most headers did have gender preferences. any prompts that were off limits were then listed in the body of the comment, seeing as how promptlists could get pretty long and one could get very specific about what they did and didn't want to play. to this day, this reasoning still makes a lot of sense to me. you have room for gender prefs in the heading. you generally don't have room for all possible prompt prefs.

on the other hand, i now realize i use "ota" for everything. gender? yes, i play most of my characters as bi or pan. canon? all please, including cross-medium. do you want to ignore the prompt and take my character to spain for tapas and champagne? baby, i am down.

the only things i'm not down for are the prompts that i say no to in the body of my comment. but everything else? as long as it's in the scope of my permissions, please.

(like, is there an ota+? open to all, including that? literally all things? please, let's have an adventure bb)

yeah i've never used 'ota' to mean anything other than "open to all genders for shipping" and i didn't realize other people used it differently. if i have specific pairings/prompts i'm not into playing i always just put stuff like that in the comment itself.
