anon are you high sandy blasted the entire eastern seaboard??? it was one of the most destructive storms on record??? whatever weird point you’re trying to make isn’t supported by this????

da but i live on the east coast (not directly on the coast) and sandy really was just a big storm where i was. people lost power for a while and trees came down and there was some flooding in the really low-lying areas but it wasn't hugely destructive at all here, so they're probably telling the truth that it wasn't a big deal for them.

dda

I get what you and other anons are saying, but the frequency of massive superstorms, even with climate change, is not so high that you could say, "don't move to the northeast because of all the hurricanes". I spent most of my life in the northeast, and we have the infrastructure in place to deal with most large snowstorms, and the occasional freak storm is such a rare event everyone remembers "that one bad year".

I don't think ayrt meant that it wasn't a disaster that affected people, just that you wouldn't deliberately not move to those places to avoid those storms in the same way that you wouldn't move to Tornado Alley because of the very high frequency of tornados or avoiding Florida to avoid the high likelihood of hurricanes.

"source: have lived there my entire life, by the time a hurricane gets here it's a rainstorm with a name"

Do we have the infrastructure? Because the past five to ten years have seen several "once in a lifetime" storms in my area, and the infrastructure is absolutely not built for being hammered that often, especially since much of it is aging. We're desperately patching holes at best.

it might shock you to hear, anon, that some people have lifestyles (due to health or finances) that would make dealing with ice and snow storms extremely debilitating. in fact, some people, if their options were limited, might choose to live in a home they could afford in tornado alley that had an adequate basement shelter, over a home they could afford in the northeast that would need money invested to update it to modern storm safety standards. they might choose to buy a home in new orleans that was affordable due to its positioning relative to public transportation over an equally affordable home in maine due to it being so remote, and decide that the risk of flooding was less potentially life-ruining than the risk of being snowed in without being able to get help.

i want to congratulate everyone in this thread btw this is much funnier than the other wank going on.

i, being fat, thought this would be more true, but it turns out you just fit less of your mass under blankets and have a hard time finding warm socks that go over your cankles

it is very funny when anons go to bad for comments that they simply hallucinated to be a lot better than they were
